Stony Brook Basic BSN class of 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Nursing Application has now opened for the Basic BSN fall 2018 program. I will be submitting my application Sept 1. I noticed there was no forum so I decided to start one... Good Luck to everyone that is applying. It is a bit early but it doesn't hurt to communicate with everyone. Has everyone finished all their pre-reqs?

I imagine they are trying to get through all of the accelerated applicants like me first. I had the interview for the accelerated program oct 30th and they still haven't given a decision out, so I imagine it'll be very similar for the basic program. Group interview of 4 people. Take turns answering same question, followed by math test and quick short essay prompt. Probably took 1 hr 45 min for everything

Thanks for the help. I appreciate it. Good luck to you!!

You're welcome and thanks! For a comparison our deadline was oct 1st so I guess you'll hear maybe 2-3 weeks after your deadline about interview invites. They did 2 rounds of interviews for us meaning first half got interviews one week and the second half heard back a week later. They want to give those who don't get into accelerated program, time to apply to basic program

I got into the two year program last year, and Jared is right, 4 person group interview, math test, writing sample. If you get an interview start practicing basic math so you don't have to stress about it. Ive heard of people who killed the interview but bombed the math section and did not make it in.

You guys are the real MVPs. Thank you for the heads up, I appreciate it from one currently stessing hopeful student to a formerly stressing hopeful student.

Hope you its going well for you! and good luck with the rest.

No problem! Also to get more specific since the test is still a little fresh in my mind, make sure you know how to convert decimals to percents and Vice verse and how to do proportions. Also fractions and percents were big on the test too. They also had adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing all of those too so be comfortable with that. I don't know how I did but thought I did well on the math!

Thanks! I'm assuming since they don't use the TEAS or other exams, this is their test in lieu of it? PEMDAS, decimals/fractions as you said, etc. Thanks it really helps to ease the anxiety. Appreciate the heads up. How is the group interview? I feel like it sounds nerve racking lol.

The interview is not so bad, after the first round of answering everyone calms down. I liked that it gave me time to compile my answer before it was my turn. I think it was 5 questions with two of the SON staff. They really do try and make you feel comfortable. One thing that I ran into with the math test is they do not give you extra paper except the one they give you, which I didn't realize till I ran out of space and asked for more. So keep ur work small and neat.

I've done a lot of mock interviewing before hand as well and did a lot of various types of interviews for other programs, and I found the group interview to not be as stressful. This year they gave us the test paper plus a direction sheet that had an empty backside we could do our work on. We didn't have to show work on the test itself

A group of us got our acceptances to the accelerated program in the other chat group including me to give everyone else some perspective. They should start working on all of your program's applications now!

Hello everyone! I'm applying for the Basic BSN program 2018 at Stony Brook too. I was wondering if anyone knows where do I go on the application to pay the application fee? Or does anyone know how you go about getting the application fee waived?

Hey y'all, currently finishing my BS in Health Science at Stony Brook and finally got all my recommendation letters in for my Basic Bacc app for 2018... Really cut it down to the wire, haha. Any other current SBU students here?

@RNLuvie, they very rarely waive the app fee if I remember right. It should be the next page once you submit the application - at least, that's what it did for me. It would bring you to a third party payer. So submit the app first, then it should let you pay.
