NYU ABSN Fall 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone!

I was just wondering if anyone was applying to NYU for the ABSN program in fall 2017? I'm kind of nervous because my GPA isn't the highest since I had to work all four years to help pay for school which took away from my studying time. I do have work experience in the health care field and a little over 100 hours of health related volunteering. Also, how is everyone planning on paying for school since it is soo expensive?

Applicants last year started to hear back exactly one week after the April 1st deadline. They continued to release decisions once a week up until June

I also received the netid a few days after I applied. My application was submitted on Thursday 02/23 and I received the e-mail the following Monday.

I currently live in Austin, TX so receiving an admission decision sooner rather than later would be ideal. The community college where I took my pre-req's separates out lecture and lab as two different grades and there is no differentiation of A, A-, etc.. hoping my C in chem lecture doesn't hurt me too much.

Anatomy Lec/Lab: A/A

Physio Lec/Lab: B/A

Chem Lecture/Lab: C/A

Dev Psych: A

Nutrition: B

Statistics: B

Microbio: currently enrolled, trending towards an A

Undergrad GPA is a modest 3.35.

I think my personal statement was pretty strong and I've been working in some facet of healthcare since graduating from undergrad in 2010, the past two years have been spent in the hospital in patient access between labor&delivery and ER.

Good luck to all, hope to see ya in September :)

I am going to be graduating undergrad in may with my BS in Kinesiology | Exercise Science. I have a minor in Computer Applications. My overall GPA is a 3.93. Below I will do the break up of my pre-reqs

Anatomy and Physiology: A+/ A

Nutrition: A-

Chemistry: B/B

Statistics: A

Dev Psych: A

Microbiology: will be taking this summer

Ive worked as a physical therapy aide for the last 5 years with tons of patient interaction. I am so nervous about getting in. Does anyone know how long it took for your transcripts to get to NYU? I ordered them online and they have been completed im just curious how long it will take for them to get there and updated into the system. I saw they update it four weeks but i applied on the 19 so four weeks would be after the deadline so i am little curious how that works. Any info is appreciated! Thanks

you can actually give them a call to check if they receive your documents and they will update right away after they confirmed all documents has been received.

do you know which number I should call?

Starting to get really stressed about timing -- I've already received several acceptances from other schools but I'm holding off from making a decision because of NYU. Most of the other schools require a deposit by May 1st to hold my spot. I'm sure others of you are in the same boat. I just want to know please!

ETA: Is anyone considering living in the dorms if accepted? Is that even an option for ABSN students? To be honest, the prospect of trying to look for an apartment in NYC freaks me out.

Sorry for another post, but it won't let me edit my earlier one again. I just checked online and my status still doesn't show that they received my transcripts. I'm also wondering if they got my letters of recommendation. Looks like I'll be calling tomorrow, I'm getting very nervous.

Hi Blackberrymousse,

I had the same problem and called NYU's admissions office and spoke with a representative. They have my transcripts! I'm in the same boat as you with other programs and need to send in my acceptance of admission by April 15th. However, if NYU is your first option and you do not hear until after the deadline you could send in the deposit for another school and wait it out. You lose your deposit but, considering the cost of attendance, it is a drop in the bucket. NYU typically sends out the first batch of admission decisions the second week of April (likely the week of the 10th?)!

As far as dorms, I've read that ABSN students get the last pick (if any) for on campus housing. The prospect of apartment hunting in NYC is daunting but I think we are in good company!

Best of luck!

Thanks very much for all the info, cowgirlwalkabout!

Which number did you call so I can make sure I call the correct one?

Luckily, most of the other schools don't have really high deposits so worst comes to worst, I'm going to do what you said.

That's too bad about the dorms because I was really hoping I could get into one near the nursing school. I know NYC is convenient but I'm a Midwestern girl who applied to NYU for the strength of the program not so much b/c of the location -- I'm already worried enough about finding housing/roommates/living in NYC in general. :nailbiting:

Also, probably quite a dumb question, but did anyone send in their transcripts and letters of rec before completing and submitting the online application. That's what I did and i hope it doesn't result in missing transcripts/LoRs or the admissions office not being able to match them up to my application. /worrywart

hi blackberrymousse

I called (212) 998-4500 today to check on my application status. My undergrad transcript is under my maiden name and they didn't have that on file with my application because of different last name so good thing I called!

Also, I sent 1 recommendation months before I submitted everything else- like 8 months before- 1 recommendation was sent to in Aug last yr and everything else right before priority deadline. NYU even changed address of their admissions office during that time. But they still got everything that was sent for my application.

So I wouldn't worry but do call that number and check to make sure they've received everything!

i got accepted to U Mass Amherst ABSN but I am holding out for NYU because I live in NYC....praying we all get in!!

Hi all-

Thanks for the phone number, shamadi. I will call today to make sure everything is in order as well but seems we won't be hearing until mid-April at least.

I also have gotten other acceptances and will have to probably make payments if they aren't too large to hold places while waiting on NYU. Most aren't usually too expensive with the exception of Northeastern. I had to decline because I received their acceptance back in February and they only gave two weeks to confirm and send in a $1,000 non-refundable deposit.

I'm with you about finding housing and living in NYC, blackberrymousse, and I'm from a suburb just north of the city. Just a bit more of a suburbanite, I guess. I could probably commute but given the intensity of the program I would prefer to be near class and the rest of the students in the cohort for study group purposes, etc.

I stopped in at NYU while home on school break this past week and they said the best thing to do is call the housing department and they can let you know about options. Probably will call them as well.

Good luck, all!

Thanks for the info, shamadi!

I also got accepted to U Mass Amherst, what a coincidence!
