JHU Fall 2018 MSN Entry into Nursing

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Has there been a thread created for Johns Hopkins Fall 2018 MSN Entry into Nursing program? is there anyone applying to this program??

Thanks!

I think we should. We could post current info and can always use the other group for extra info for whoever is interested. It is a good resource as well.

New here and asking a quick question:

Anyone else applying by the Jan 1st deadline, rather than Nov. 1st? (for Fall entry)

Did anyone who was accepted not get a phone call? I never got a voicemail on my account and I'm kind of worried

I have not received a phone call either. I have been told all accepted students should receive a phone call at some point so I am trying to not worry.

Im wondering if anyone has received an acceptance package yet with further information. I've yet to receive anything by mail. Thanks!

One question for folks here: is anyone looking to pursue midwifery? I know Johns Hopkins doesn't have a midwifery program (and I did not get into Yale), but I was wondering if anyone has experience or research continuing on with a different program afterwards? I'm also considering Columbia, but their MSN program doesn't really hold a candle to Johns Hopkins. Also, their midwifery program isn't ranked as highly as some others (thinking University of MN, University of Michigan).

Curious to talk through pros and cons if anyone else is considering! I'm very heavily leaning towards Johns Hopkins, with reapplying to a new program upon graduation.

Just curious since I'm also considering Columbia and Hopkins-- what makes you say Hopkins MSN program is better? Thanks!

Hi! i joined the jhu son MSN facebook page. I think one for our cohort would be good to get to know eachother, discuss housing and everything about our program. Should we start one?

What's the FB group called?? I can't find it...

Rankings (JHU is #2 for graduate nursing, where Columbia is #8) and cohort size (JHU is ~20% smaller) primarily. I also was reading through recent threads on allnurses citing some concerns with feeling like just a number at Columbia due to disappointing communication throughout the MDE year. I also caught wind of a retention rate in the mid eighty percentile, which concerned me. I tried reaching out to a current student at Columbia about my concerns but never heard back.

Obviously Columbia's direct transfer to a DNP is a big draw, as is their innovative work in maternal health for me. However, I know some folks who have collaborated with JHU nurse faculty and have nothing but rave reviews for the quality education and communication. (It's interesting though, as my own experience is the opposite. JHU has had minimal communication compared to Columbia for me-- I get replies and clarification within 24 hrs from Columbia and often it takes weeks to hear back from JHU. I'm not sure if there is a parallel between the communication of the admissions office and actual program, though.)

If you have heard different things (either contradictory or totally different considerations) I'd love to hear what your thought process is!

Would anyone recommend this program if someone is interested in pursuing a CRNA path in the future or is the JHU MSN direct entry a better fit for the NP path? Any thoughts?

Hello! New to this thread. Congrats to all who have been accepted. I also found out I was accepted on the 27th. I have a question for anyone who has taken the online prerequisites- what is the approximate time commitment per week for each class? Trying to gauge by how much I need to cut my work hours to get them done. Thanks in advance!!

Does anyone know how many people from the cohort get accepted to the NP program in JHU vs the people outside of JHU who apply to JHU NP Program?

what other schools are you waiting to hear back from?

Well, I hear back from programs like Columbia and UPenn in early-February, and my interview for Yale is days after the admissions deposit deadline, so I would include that as well. I'm honestly feeling conflicted, because as great as a school JHU is, I'm not sure if I would want to accept their offer without examining the entirety of my admissions/financial aid situation.
