BSN Lamar 2018 FALL

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello I'm starting a post for those who are applying to the Lamar University nursing program in Beaumont, Tx for the Fall semester!

Specializes in Med-Surg, Home Health, Hospice, School.

My son received his early acceptance letter on Friday, April 27th. My nephew, who also applied, has not received anything yet. We are still hoping and praying that he gets in. Does anyone happen to know how many are sent "early acceptance" letters, and how many will be included in the second round? Are there only two rounds of letters that go out?

We honestly weren't even expecting to know anything until July, as that is what his prenursing advisor told him. Further, I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have any inside information about how many applicants there were, and how may will be accepted. I assumed that because the application came out so late, and there was only about 1 month to get everything in before the deadline that there wouldn't be many applicants. Maybe I was wishful thinking.

I am currently attending Lamar and my Pathos professor constantly updates us of any announcements or changes when it comes to admission. She said usually around 200 or more apply every semester. As far as how many get it, this year there is no definite answer. Usually they take in 80 students, but they are trying to expand. I believe they started last year accepting 88 student. With that change we expect more this year.

From what I hear I believe there are three waves of letter that are sent out. Early acceptance that they started last year, June letters, and early July letters. The nursing administration announced that they do send out letters earlier than July, around June. I am only assuming 3 since early acceptance was added.

There is no definite number of early acceptance letters sent out. I assume a good amount, because if I was accepted, I know many students in my pathos class that have similar, competitive grades as mine, and those who have posted their stats on this thread. I didn't expect an early letter with my stats, so I am surprised.

Sorry all of my answers are not definite. This is everything I know as far as what the nursing department has announced.

Was your acceptance a conditional acceptance since you haven't taken the nursing classes ? I'm just curious ... I've been hoping they would send an acceptance so I wouldn't drive to Beaumont from Houston for 6 weeks straight for nothing this summer taking the 2 requires nursing pre-requisites í ½í¸© it's so nerve wrecking ...

Yes, my son's was an "early acceptance" conditional upon him completing all of the required prereqs.

Have you received an acceptance letter yet? My son did, but my nephew has not, and we were banking on the two of them driving back and forth together. He and my son had similar grades - A&B's, but my nephew's HESI score was unfortunately very low on the AP section. He had not yet taken APII when he took his HESI. We're hoping and praying he receives a letter in June when the second round goes out.

I'm so curious about how many more will be receiving letters.

If you don't mind me asking, what are your stats?

I did have a letter attached stating the classes I needed to take. If someone with early acceptance fails pathos in spring and summer they will not be admitted into the nursing program.

A friend of mine stopped by the nursing building and talked to the information office. The lady stated there will be another round of acceptance letters in 3 weeks.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, Vallie. Did she happen to mention how many more would be accepted? Or are there only a few spots left based on the off chance that someone may fail a prereq (who was already offered early acceptance) and therefore, have to forfeit their admission into the program.

After all waves of acceptance letters go out, I believe people are waitlisted if they have a chance of getting in, however they must wait for students to accept/decline/fail classes. They didn't say how many more will be accepted or how many have been accepted. She said she's not part of the admission board, so she doesn't know certain information. In my chemistry class I had 5 others receive acceptance letters. Their stats are great, mostly A's and a couple of B's. Their hesi scores were 84-90's. I can't say about my pathos class, which has 3x the amount of people in my chem class. I can probably count 8 more people who most likely received an acceptance letter based on their stats.

I am very frustrated because I received a letter today clarifying that my application isn't considered "complete" because my Anatomy and Physiology classes didn't transfer over. I spoke with three people in JANUARY about my courses being acceptable, and then on February 29th I received a phone call with complete verification of my courses. I am so confused why it took them until May to change their minds and then state this?

I was just curious to know.. those of you that received early acceptance letters, when is the deadline for y'all to return the acceptance agreement in by? Congrats btw!
