APU ELM Nursing Fall 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello,

I am currently in the process of applying to APU's ELM Nursing program for the the Fall of 2019. Applications are not due until October 1st, however I feel like this forum might help as a sort of support group for one another as we reach towards our goal as future NPs!

I applied for summer 2019 cohort, but I was notified today that I got into fall2019 cohort instead:) If you have any questions on application process or the interview itself, feel free to ask me.

Do you have any tips for the interview process?

It's a very casual one on one interview. They ask you obvious questions like why azusa and why nursing. Some people have been asked questions like what are your two strengths and two weaknesses. Also this is your chance to tell them about your experiences. whole application process is organized into a point system. So different experiences like military experiences, healthcare experiences, faith based outreach and/or international experiences will each grant you a point. This will help you if your GPA is lower than 3.5, or if you do not have a BS or MS degree.

Before the actual interview, you get a timed short writing prompt after reading a page long passage.

Hey! I applied for the Fall 2019 cohort in San Diego. My application was sent for review last week. :) I was told that if I am selected for an interview, I will hear back sometime between mid October and late November. Best of luck to you in the application process!

I graudated from UCSD with a B.S. in Biophysics and Minor in Chemistry. Graduated with 3.3 gpa..My science prereq is 3.9 with nonscience at 3.8. I volunteered at a VA medical center for a year. US Army reserves for 6 years. I work at a small hospital as a scribe and receptionist taking vitals for the initial exam. I volunteered at a hospital in Korea providing sheltered care for Hansen's disease patients. I worked as a research assistant for a year.

Hey everyone! I just submitted my application and I'm waiting on a transcript (I got a confirmation they received it 10 days ago but APU is looking for it.) I applied for the San Diego campus. Last week they only had 15 applications in with 100 started. Seems like a slower term?? But I saw a number of fall 2019 spots were given to previous applications. Wondering if they're still accepting 20 from our application cycle or if there's fewer since some are already filled.

I'd love to hear about your letters to the dean.

Mine was 2 pages and mostly autobiographical to give them a narrative of how I decided to pursue nursing.

Im on call on Thursday (I'm a doula) but hoping to making it to the info session!!

good luck everyone

@K.Rae Thats weird, I was told that the fall term is generally the most competitive cohort. They will accept total of 20 spots and that includes the spots already given to the previous applications. They rarely give out spots for the fall cohort to a previous application, and most of them were offered the spring 2019 spots. If this term really is a slower term than usual, that is a good sign for you guys:)

I can email you my letters to the dean, although mine was more of a personal statement. I was told that I scored max points on my essay during an interview.

@lindsay_93 Hello. Congrats on your interview. I am going to submit my application soon. But I just have a little trouble writting my letter to the dean. I don't know if you can email me your letters? Seem like I can't fit everything in :(

Of course:) can i have your email please?

Thank you so much :)

Oh the admissions office told me but I'm sure people are sending them in right up to the deadline!

Thanks for offering to send it, thats so nice! I already submitted it so it's ok.

I volunteer at UCSD as a doula and I was there last night and was asking some of the nurses about school and I actually got to meet someone who went to APU and she loved it. Just nice to talk to a grad and hear her experience was so great and she got a job right after school. Apu has such a great reputation, it's nice to talk to someone and get a testimony too.

best of luck!! I'm just trying to put it out of my mind until the interview invitations go outs
