2018 OHSU and PCC Nursing Program Applicants

  1. Hey there! I wanted to start a thread to hopefully talk with some fellow OHSU and/or PCC applicants. I just completed the OHSU interview process for their 3 year BSN program and the proctored essay for PCC's ADN program last week. How do you feel you all did? Was this your first time applying to these programs? What are your credentials like? I'm going to be on pins and needles until I hear anything. Would love to hear from others going through the same thing I am!

Hi Coop, thanks for starting the thread! I also completed the interview process at OSHU PDX and the essay at PCC last week. All around, pretty nerve racking but very cool experience (it is my first time applying for nursing school). We were told by the Program Director to start checking our emails this week so I am keeping my eye on it . Did you feel you did well?

I applied for the 3 year BSN program but I was not selected to interview I'm just waiting for the final results so I can find out how close I was and what to do next!

I felt I did decently but I did not get in to OHSU It was also my first year applying. I'm hopeful for PCC though. PCC was actually my first choice for my nursing plan. Did you get in to OHSU? Hopefully we can both get in to one! We should really feel very good about even getting in to interview because each school got about 500 applicants and only took about 100 for this second process. So congrats to us for that if not anything else at least!

Jill, I'm sorry to hear that. Don't take it personally. It is such insane competition. My friends from A&P with perfect applications and that are highly competent people did not get invited for OHSU or PCC interviews/essays. So you are not alone. Just keep trying if Nursing is what you really want. Do what you can to strengthen your app for next year. Make sure you have all As on your prereques. Get more work hours. Get some volunteer hours. Get an Associates degree if you don't have a degree yet. You'll get there! Don't give up!!

Hi Coop, hey thanks! I am an alternate and "moderately" likely to start in the fall. OHSU would be great and is my hands-down first choice but I will tell you one thing, it was insanely competitive this year. If you were accepted to OHSU, you are a rockstar. I felt very confident after the interview and essay but it kind of feels like a lottery. I think they put a lot of weight on a prior degree this year too. I have a 4.0 GPA, I was a resident firefighter/EMT-B for about 5 years and am a 32 year old male. I know a few other people who are alternates with boat loads of experience and very high GPA's as well. I also know a few people who did get in with little to no experience but had a prior degree. I am also really hoping for PCC, I definitely feel at home there and would love to go there.

Oh and I forgot to mention, I thought PCC got WAY MORE applications then that. I have heard 600+ and someone even told me 800.... That would be hard to believe but you never know .

Wow, yeah, you sound like a great applicant! Way better than my application lol. I have some CNA experience (about 6 months) and just a general associate of science degree. And 4.0 gpa. Nothing too exciting! I think you're right though, it probably is based on a lottery. Well, here's to hoping for PCC! Otherwise, better luck next year.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised. So many people want PCC. At least they have more spots than OHSU or CCC. I can't believe CCC has only 24 seats in their program every year. That's insane

I applied of both PCC and OHSU, for the first time this year. I am an alternate for OHSU,still waiting to hear back from PCC. I called admissions and they are hoping emails go out on the 21st of May.
