online np programs that find your preceptor locally

Published

hi everyone

I am looking for some recommendation for online np prgrams adut gero or fnp that help you with the clinical placements.

I know so far Georgetown offers that but the program costs 84k. I think it is super expensive.

Is Georgetown the online program that helps with this aspect?

I am leery of going to a place that doesn not find your preceotors and then you have to withdraw if you ca't find the preceptor

I would appreciate any feedback

It's hard enough to find an on-campus program that gets your clinical placements. Forget about an online program helping. I think it's absurd that programs can do this but that's how they work.

A lot of on campus programs have moved away from finding preceptors too. One local on campus NP program "found" a peds preceptor for one of my former coworkers. It was an urgent care.

In fact, I find it amusing that PA programs from a few hours away have started utilizing our NPs for preceptors.

I found a reasonably priced NP program and I decided to go with a service to find my preceptors. They have actually did a fairly good job so far.

I think I know the BS artist who runs that "service."

By the way what does he charge?

That's how they work for whom? The whole preceptor situation is one big deceptive disgrace considering the time, money and effort involved by many aspiring NP students.

I am somewhat gratfied that the word is getting out that the preceptor farce is the biggest, most well kept entrapment BS in NP education.

This situation is so wrong and the nursing leaders and academics of good conscience know it and should be ashamed for perpetrating it.

The others in it for the paycheck have obviously checked their character cred at the door.

The preceptorship issue/problem is the biggest disgrace in nursing education.

Many schools are deceptive about this issue and as a result a lot of NP students have fallen by the wayside.

It's a big disgrace and I'm gratified it is finally being discussed on this site with honesty as it is vital information every student should be informed about before making this expensive committment in time and money.

I’m so thankful for this information. As many of you have articulated, it is very frustrating trying to find clinical sites and a preceptor. I recently got my MPH and it was so difficult finding it. I actually had to pay for this particular site that I found. Can you imagine? But I was so desperate to finish my program and it was the only thing holding me back from graduating. I’m going to apply to go to NP school and I am NOT going to put myself through that struggle again so I’m searching hard for a program where the clinical sites and preceptorship is apart of the program. So far what I’ve found in the NJ/NY/PA areas are really expensive for the programs that find the clinicals for you. Sigh.........

FWIW, changes made effective in 2019 for NP program accreditation:

"While the following statement is not new to the 2018 Standards, the elaboration to Key Element III-H specifically states, “Clinical practice experiences are provided for students in all programs, including those with distance education offerings.” Please note, this key element does not prohibit programs from allowing students to play an active role in identifying clinical practice experiences, but if a student is unable to find an appropriate clinical practice experience, the program is ultimately responsible for providing this."
