Online LPN course

Published

Forgive me if this question has been asked before but I was recently informed that it is nearly impossible to find an accredited online LPN program and I am in search of a second opinon on that.

Thanks.

Specializes in Hospice/Palliative Nursing.

You were informed correctly. :nono::typing

I have never heard of such a thing.

Specializes in Mother-Baby, Rehab, Hospice, Memory Care.

Never heard of such a thing, which I think makes complete sense that they don't exist. LPNs are taught the fundamentals of nursing. Without live instruction, I don't think it could be successfully done. I completed my schooling in less than 1 year with no required prerequisites. Most people just have to put there lives on hold for that one year, but it is definitely worth it.:wink2:

Miwila, There are actually a few on line to become LPN programs that I"ve found. (unfortunatly, not in my state or even in my area) Minnesota online has a program where you do your schooling on line, then go there for clinicals. Arizona has a program at Marcopia (??I think it was) a tech school where you do your classwork on line, then every weekend for a year are spent doing clinicals. New Jersery Ocean college has a "one day a week" LPN program. You do your school work on line, then one day a week is spent on clinicals(for 18 months I think it was). A school in Tifton Georgia (can't think of the name of the college) has a one day a week program also ANNND Chamberland college in Ohio has a on line class to become an LPN program, clinicals one day a week and on weekends. That's the only program near me (I'm in Indiana) but they stipulate you have to be a Ohio resident and clinicals are done at their area hospitals. Hope some of that helps. I have done ALOT of research to find these schools. Everyone always says, Oh no! it's not possible. But it is...it's actually a Hybrid program...school work done on line, but hands on learning in the clinicals. I see nothing wrong with that. Wish I could benefit from one of these schools...I work full time days...there's no way in Indiana to go to LPN school. NO part time programs, no evening programs even. :(

Greenie thanks for the info. Ironically New Jersey and Georgia are #2 & #3 in places I would like to move too if and when I leave the area I live in now so maybe thats a sign.

HOpe the info does help. When your googeling looking for programs, try searching for "Hybrid" programs, or "weekend Option programs" that's how I started coming up with stuff. I seriously considered doing the "online minnosota" program.(just put online Minnosota in the search) They seem very helpful and are trying to get their program up and going. but I would have to fly to minnosota like 12 times in a year, for a week at a time. No can do, too expensive. Good luck to you!

ONe more program I forgot to meantion (in case your in Washington State) is the ROAN program in Washington. Again, it's coursework on line, clinicals at area hospitals. GOOD LUCK!

Has anyone heard of a program in Chicago area?

You MUST attend clinicals for an LPN program. I know there's one in OK for area residents.

Yes, that is what I am looking for. An lpn program where I could take nursing core classes online and attend the clinicals. I really like minnesota online, but too much of a drive for me.

oops...doublr post...milwaukee would work for me also.
