My CPR will expire soon and it will be hard to fit the classroom training into my schedule, so i have been looking at courses online....Have any of you ever done an online CPR recertification course, and is at an acceptable form of recertification??? I've been lookin at ProCpr.org and its only $29 once you pass the exam.

I would check with your school. I could see them wanting you to do a class like CPR in a classroom.

My NS specifically states that online CPR classes are not acceptable. Also, as a former Certified Ophthalmic Technician, our certifying body (JCAHPO) excluded online CPR as valid. The level of CPR required is usually "healthcare professional" and that requires a hands on component that is not possible with an online course.

The online classes have training for the healthcare professional and you have to have had classroom training at least once to qualify. The CPR card don't say online, but i'll find out from my NS tomorrow.

My school will not accept online CPR certifications. I would ask to be sure but I would say that it would be no.

I would have to say probably not. I think it would have to be in class because you have to actually practice and I would think for healthcare, you need to be there.

I don't know what state you are in, but where I live you can get certified through American Heart. I had one of their instructors come to my home and certify me (healthcare provider BLS) in just an hour and a half. I love doing the class one-on-one instead of with a group!

The online CPR courses are not accepted by most schools due to the fact that is does not show that you have the skill to do CPR just the knowledge.

from the bls healthcare provider online part 1:
part 1. students complete the online, cognitive portion of the course, either at the workplace or anywhere with internet access. when students finish the online portion, a certificate of completion will be available for them to print. the certificate is required to complete part 2 at an authorized american heart association training center.
part 2. students complete the skills validation test with an american heart association instructor.
upon successful completion of both parts, students will be issued an american heart association bls - healthcare provider course completion card.
nowhere on the course completion card will it state that this was on online course. because you must have your skills validated by an aha bls instructor, there is no distinction in a course completed either online or in a traditional classroom setting.

It has to be approved by the American Heart Association. I screwed up by taking CPR online when I had to renew mines, and later found out that it wasn't acceptable. Also, I know some hospitals do not take Red Cross any more, so check into that.
