Online BLS Certificate

Published

Has anyone done their BLS online and then went to a location for their skills test? My school registered me though the AHA and last week I took all of my tests and received my online cert. On Friday, I have to go and perform my skills. I am so nervous. Has anyone done it this way and if so, did they just toss a mannequin at you for them to show you?

I passed my online test earlier today and I am doing the skills test tomorrow. I hope it's not too bad.

I just had to demonstrate chest compressions, breathing, ambu bag and AED. It was 15 minutes.

I renewed my BLS through class (not online), but all we had to do during the skills portion was demonstrate the whole CPR protocol/chest compressions on both an adult and infant, use of the ambu bag and AED. Can't remember if we were "tested out" on relief of choking victims. Just remember your ABC's (though now I think it's CAB's? I renewed in 2010, don't have to renew again until 2012) and your compression:breath ratios. we also demonstrated both one person and two person CPR.

I have been a CPR instructor for years and I HATE the fact that you can take your initial this way. Its great for recerts, but the first time around you should be required to sit through an actual class so you have a chance to become confident.

I will say that the last recert I did in this way was done by a great group that did take the time with people if they were shaky on something. We were able to complete as fast or slow as we wanted for the most part as long as they were satisfied we had the skills down.

CPR is really a very easy thing if you can get the whole process down. There are a lot of little things to remember at first but it all becomes second nature and automatic the more you do it. I am speaking from 13 years of EMS experience and countless codes in the streets. If all of yours are in the hospital it will be far more controlled and less chaotic than what I deal with on a regular basis. In the hospital you will have a whole team backing you.

Dont sweat it too much. Just concertrate on doing the best you can.
