I am currently working on my prereqs and still have about 1 more year before I can apply 4 an adn program. I am having a hard time deciding if it is better to postpone applying to get preggos or wait until I am finished with adn program and find employment. I have 2 boys already, 15 & 8, but we want 1 more and I am turning 34 this month. With how competitve things are what would you guys do? just looking for input due 2 current job market.

The majority of the female nursing students in my cohort chose to postpone becoming pregnant as to not distract them from their goal and also nursing school sucks up so much of your time that it makes it difficult to dedicate the time and patience needed to care for a newborn/toddler.

Only you can truly know what you're capable of and what you truly want. Also you might want to discuss it with your children; would they be willing to help, etc.

As a mother of 2 little ones (ages 3 & 6 months) I would strongly recommend waiting. Nursing school is so demanding and so are small children. On the other hand, if you guys don't want to wait, I say do it as soon as possible, so you can have the baby before your actual nursing courses because you cannot miss class, especially clinical's. Hope that was helpful, & good luck!

This. Either do it ASAP so you have your baby before you start school or wait until after you graduate. But you also have to find out what the new grad environment is like where you graduate and if you having a newborn will limit the hours and type of job you can apply for. For example where I live there is not that intense competition to find a job as a new grad so I don't think I'd have a hard time finding a part time or perdiem job once I graduate so I can have a baby (if we decide to have another) while I work on my RN to BSN.

I opted to wait until after (its been a really hard decision). I have an 8 year old and almost 6 year old....when I submitted my application we decided that if I didn't get in we would try to get pregnant immediately. I got in and start in a week..... I plan to finish the ADN program look for a job....work for awhile then we will try to get pregnant....I also intend to work on a rn-ban bridge program in there...my biggest reason for waiting was not wanting to miss out on so much of the "newborn" stuff......this will be our last baby and I don't want to miss out on that for nursing school

Thank you guys for the input. I now believe it is best to wait. As I finish my ADN prereqs I will also finishing my prereqs for BSN which I plan to do right after. Lord willing I will find employment while I work on BSN and get preggers after I secure a job. Once again thanks :)
