Possible transfer to Oncology...need advice

Hey everyone! So this may be a long story, but I'm hoping someone can guide me in the right direction. While I was in nursing school I worked as an aide on a surgical oncology unit and grew to love this type of nursing and the patient population. I knew right away that I wanted to be an oncology nurse. Well, when I applied for a position at my current hospital I was told there was an oncology position open, yay! Fast forward one month to when I had my interview, the position is no longer available but I can go to a Med-Surg unit and then transfer in a year. So right now I've been working on the med-surg unit for almost 2 months. I love the staff, the teamwork is outstanding, and the nurse manager is a dream come true, especially since my last one was a nightmare. I know in my heart that I do not want to be a med-surg nurse, my heart is still set on oncology. Here is my concern though: when the time comes that I can transfer to the oncology unit, I'm worried that the staff won't be as much of a team and the nurse manager won't be as great. But I won't know any of this until I actually work on the unit. What are you're thoughts - make the move in about a year and see how things go, or stay where I am for a while? Thanks for any advice!!
