I've been on summer vacation less than 2 weeks and already feel I should be studying. Granted, I will start studing hard core before class, but, I'm finding it hard to even take a month off the books. Anyone else feel this way?

Yeah, I just bought my books today and cracked them open. We are on quarters though, so I only have 1.5 weeks. A whole month is making me jealous!!!
actually, we get 3 months off...hate me now????

LOL yea I have 3 months and 3 weeks off before fall semester I've already been on break for over a month now. I'm taking Gen Chem 1 online and just reviewing my dosage calculations twice a week that's all I'm doing. Med-Surg and OB rotation in the fall will take up most of my time so I really am not trying to study during the summer time.

You know you're a nursing student when...
You feel guilty for not reading 500+ pages a week over the summer break.

I'm so jealous....we don't have "official" registration until a week before school starts. So no idea what books I need or how much my tuition is. Really doesn't seem to be in the best interest of the student but they are waiting till then to finalize the list of people that have all their final requirements for the program. People that were sent letters of acceptance don't always stick with it. Don't stress too much about studying.....you have months to do that while you are actually in school. :) Enjoy the beautiful summer.

I finished Pre-Nursing in late April, and didn't do anything until yesterday! I couldn't make myself do anything for 48 days! I was sleeping, eating and playing PS3 like crazy. lol. I'm starting NS in Sept, so now I'm just starting reviewing all the A&P and math. I also got the 2500 page:eek: Med-Surg book we're going to use, and "getting to know it a bit" before school. I don't know yet what other books we'll need, they didn't finalize the book list yet .
As of today there's still 88 days left until NS starts, so plenty of time to review all the A&P over and over, system by system, chapter by chapter, I have it all planned out, I'll make study time 2-3 hours/day. :)
Now if I could only get myself to exercise at least for an hour a day, 'cause I wanted to loose some weight and be more fit before Sept, it would be nice... but I'm so lazy when it comes to this... sooooo lazyyyyyyyyy heeeelp

I got into Nursing School!! I will be listening to all the Mp3s from my A&P class and my Micro class while I drive on my vacation. I bought a Pathophys. book and I will read all the normal chapters to beef up my A&P knowledge. If I have time I will skim the alternatives chapters that make up the rest of the book. Plus I looked up the Math sticky on this very page and I will probably have to review regular math. Statistics and Algebra don't look as important as fractions!
I'm doing this because I love to learn and I think it will help me learn faster once I'm assigned pages in the same book. Time saved and stress averted

I feel pretty much the same way, MedicJohn! I just finished my AS and decided to take the summer (3 months) off. But, since I changed which University I will be applying to, I have a few additional pre-reqs to take. Before spring was even over, I started reading my fall books (I get to take Patho and I am SUPER psyched!). It's been a month since school finished, and I have just now started to put my fall text books aside.
It's tough to mentally unwind and disconnect from school and just RELAX.... but I'm trying!!

Sounds a bit of a high class problem to me :)
I always read ahead in the summer/winter breaks. It has seen me through many a family crisis. I am actually doing summer school so my load is less this fall.
I enjoyed Patho I took that last fall. Actually Patho and Pharm were my favorite classes and were easy As for me. I just can't wait until Med Surg, we had fundamentals last semester and while I enjoyed it I know this next semester clinicals will be more enjoyable since it will be longer with more things to do, except maybe OB that rotation next semester may suck lol.
I just ordered my Med Surg book last night, because in fundamentals we were assigned usually 5 chapters a week to read for a 16 week course there was only one chapter we didn't read out the whole book but we covered everything in that book. So I am going to start reading now since the Med Surg book is 2688 pages.
We received our book list for the whole year which I'm glad I wont buy other books until first day of class since last semester I bought books and 2 we never even used. Waste of money, oh yea buy the edition under your current one lot cheaper same thing I could care less that the graphics don't look as cool as the newer book but the text is the same.

Actually, I never ever have. For both nursing programs, I have an ironclad rule the first time around in NS that vacation time was just that: vacation. It was my chance to recharge my batteries and get a well-needed break before the insanity started/starts back up. I may idly thumb through a textbook (usually not) but no hard studying...and trust me, I do not feel one bit guilty about letting the textbooks rot by the wayside doing it. IMO, the mind really needs the downtime to just have fun. One can't keep up the stressful pace nonstop through school.
