So, I'm sitting here in a local OR waiting room, waiting on BF's mom to come out of surgery.
In one corner, there are about 30 family and friends for one patient. This is over half the chairs for the one room. I think they think it's their living room...they've even moved some of the chairs over to "their" corner.
The group next to me is 6 women (one is an RN). they have opened a restraunt here in the corner and are having some huge, smelly feast...all smacking and spilling food. Loud too (but they kinda have to be to hear each other over the previously mentioned "villiage" in the other corner).
Couple across from me, older couple. They've been married too long, because all they've done is argue with each other.
Family just brought a baby in a stroller in....someone needs a Benadryl for off-label purposes.
Everytime a nurse walks by the door, someone from Party #1 jumps up and runs to the door, even if the nurse is just walking by.
Man, this is a zoo. I miss what little control I have in my ER.
Awesome!
The little old couple? Well, he got up and went to go pee or something. While he's gone, one of her friends showed up. They left. he just walked in to find them gone and started asking me (apparently since I'm by the door) where she went. "Um, I don't know." He threw a fit and stomped out. Nice to know that, for once, I can't get complained on. :chuckle
While this is happening, Dad with the stroller and fussy baby is messing around with the back of his kid's $2000 stroller, stuffing some bag inn the back. Another woman walks over and picks up the steaming cup of coffee that he set on the tray right in front, and goes off on him for being a dumb***! LOL! I suppose it's bad of me to clap...but I did.

Oh I feel you. I have had some out patient procedures this year and wow the amount of family that comes to the hospital when someone is having a surgery. The only person that comes with me is my husband. Don't they realize that only one person can go back to preop?
We do have some of those famlies in our ICU waiting room. They take over completely. There were fights when we had a few pull out beds in there due to people that felt the need to camp out there for days on end.
Ruh roh! The guy three seats down from me? Apparently his significant other thinks he's having an affair. It's awesome to sit here and listen to him trying to quietly defend himself! I wonder who he's waiting for in surgery? LOL!
Oh, and someone has gas. Bad.
She's out and fine...I'm desperatly waiting for someone to come get me the heck out of here. The entertainment was good, but I can only handle small doses of these people!

Yea, I work med-surg and it is amazing the amount of family that shows up in the room post-op. I've had some patients comment about how some of them are people they haven't seen in years. "They never come to see me or call or anything, but suddenly I'm sick and they're acting like we're close or something "
I had one patient comment to me the other day how happy she was when her hovering daughter left since she could finally get some rest.
If I wasn't stuck here, and could take a break from the idiocracy, it would be hysterical.
Right now, the giant fam's surgeon came in to tell them that he was fine, and could go home tonight (yes, they are all here for what is basically DAY SURGERY!)...but the wife and someone who may be a son are arguing with the surgeon, and asking all kinds of irrelevant questions to show how smart (stupid) they are! LOL!
I've seen two other folks that don't want to get off their cells when the surgeon comes in to give an update.
Cheating man has left. Wonder where he went.
Still gassy. (Not me, someone else!)
Old folks still arguing.
Oh....QUIT READING MY COMPUTER YOU JERK!!!!!!!!!
(yes, some guy was standing at the door behind me, and he was reading as I was typing. :typing:eek: He has now slunk away since I busted him! LOL!)
Thanks for letting me vent here guys!

:chuckle:chuckle LOL, I was cracking up while I read these, way too funny. Thanks so much for the laughs this afternoon, I needed them!!
So, I've invented a new game. They have a computer screen here that gives running updates on pts in OR. It has something like the last two initials of the last name, then first initial, followed by what times the pt either goes into OR, moves to PACU, then to a room. The screen changes about every 12 seconds and there are 4 pages of pts.
My new game is to guess which loving family members will attempt to touch the screen, obviously thinking they have control over it.
Since I'm the only one in my party here (I sent the BF off to work because he sucks to wait with!), I'm keeping score by myself.
1 point for guessing whether they will or won't touch it.
Add 1 point if the "toucher" is over 70 years old (no offence oldsters...but you would think that those of us with our laptops would have figured it out before you...but I guess you're more clever!)
Subtract 1 point if the screen happens to change when they touch it, thus convincing them that they have the power (sucks to lose a point, but it is funny!)
Bonus point if they continue to touch it, even though it's painfully clear that they do not have the power.
So far, my calculated score (for those of you keeping up at home) is approx 2,378,956.2 points! WOOT!

ROTFL! This is so true! But where I am, all of those people would be speaking either Spanish or Japanese and I wouldn't get the giggles out of what they are saying!
