I am an RN with 35 years ER experience. I moved to Missouri and have 20 applications out, have only had 4 interviews and still no job. When I called about positions I was told they were filled from inside. But the next week the position was posted again. When I called again no one can give me an answer. I have been told that I interview well and have a good resume. I am beginning to believe that there is a bias against number of years experience and top of pay scale and/or my age. Anyone else having problems?

I know many of the big union hospitals here have to post all openings but also have to fill those openings from inside if anyone applies.
People end up taking MS or float jobs and then tying to move to ED or unit right away.

In Ohio, with 40 yrs, last 15 as an RN certified case manager. Rejection letters from companies that were offering me jobs 10 years ago. Those same jobs still posted. I'm so ashamed of this profession that won't provide for it's older, still perfectly capable, peers. No 30 and out for nurses unless you want to live under a bridge.

Wow, I thought this would be a hot topic. I am a retired RN, BSN with 40 years nursing experience. I moved to Springfield, MO in 2006 and found a part time nursing job right away. I left that job in March 2013 when my position was changed to full time. It is almost impossible to find a part time nursing position. I have about 6 applications out there and am patiently waiting for a reply. Part of the problem is going back to a clinical setting after having worked as a nurse case manager and wellness educator since 2000! I could use a clinical refresher course but apparently this is not available anywhere! Any ideas on how to update clinical nursing skills to get back into the clinical work force and be considered "experienced"? Thanks!
