OU ABSN 2018 (2017 Applicant)

U.S.A. Oklahoma

Published

Hey there! I am looking to apply this fall for the 2018 OU ABSN program. Any others find their way here yet?

I am still finishing up my first bachelor's degree but will be done in Dec. 2017. I was told that I can still apply in the fall.

I am expecting rejection or waitlisted due to the fact that I won't be finished with my degree, and my cumulative gpa is pretty rough. Hoping to have a 4.0 in last 60 and a 4.0 in Science with a pre-reqs completed to give myself a shot.

Would love to find others on this same journey!

Hi all!

I also applied to the OU ABSN 2018 program. The only campus I selected was Tulsa because we own a home here. I'm really nervous and just want to get the waiting period over with. I'm not sure how I'll stack up as I hear each year it just depends on the pool of applicants. Below are my stats:

Last 60 hours: 3.56

Science GPA: 3.54

Cumulative (which they don't look at thank goodness - I messed up when I was younger): 2.9

I finished my degree from NSU Tahlequah in 2013 and wrapped up my last prereq class in the fall of 2014

I didn't submit my application until the 5th of October and when I did the nursingcas system said it would take 4 weeks to review my transcripts. The OU site said to have them sent in before the deadline so I'm not sure who to believe.... currently it just says that they are verifying them, so fingers crossed.

Also my prereqs are a few years old and some schools won't take them after 5 years - which I'm just about to hit that mark. Whatever happens, happens though. Best of luck to everyone!

Hi all! Did everyone get their apps submitted in time for the 10/15 deadline? The next month of waiting is going to be torture, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for us all.

I have a 4.0 for the last 60 and 4.0 for science, but I'm worried about my outstanding prereqs. I won't be finished with Physiology until December and I'm taking Micro in the spring. Hoping that will be enough to at least get me waitlisted. Speaking of which, does anyone know how orientation works for the waitlisted folks? The mandatory New Student Orientation is on December 15th, but is that only for admitted students? Are you still required to attend if you've been waitlisted?

You also sound super competitive even with 8 hours pending. I think you have a great shot! The orientation is for those that are admitted.

I got mine all submitted and OU confirmed that they received everything. Not super hopeful but just proud I was able to even apply! I am still applying to Connors, RSU, and Osu ADN programs as a backup. I don't think I will opt to wait another year if I'm waitlisted.

How's everyone doing and feeling?

I'm a little annoyed because NursingCas didn't enter in one of my needed grades. Ive been trying to reach them for two weeks to correct it and still haven't gotten a response. I finally caved and emailed Angela T. to ask if they've requested the applications from NursingCas already. I'll be so mad if I'm not even considered because of NursingCas missing one of my grades!

You literally have to hound NursingCAS. At least that's what I've had to do to get an answer. Their whole "we will get back to you ASAP" is a load of it. I had to email them every single day to finally get an answer.

I had a brief moment of panic last week with my CLEP score for Dev Psych. I was told by NursingCAS that the results should be sent directly to OU, so that's where I had the score sent at the end of the test. I was later told by someone at OU that it should have been sent to CAS. I was ready to scream thinking that my app was going to be denied over a CLEP score. Thankfully, Debbie Shell in Admissions is an absolute star and helped me get everything sorted. I sent her a copy of the official score report and she uploaded it to my OUHSC supplemental application.

Now all that's left is the waiting game. Based on last year's timeline, I'm guessing emails will go out on Friday, Nov 17th.

I'm in tears. NursingCAS just told me that they won't "verify" my Nutrition grade because it was taken this fall. Even though It was completed and my transcript has shown the final grade well before the application period even opened up. I'm flipping out. I'll automatically be rejected without that grade. I've emailed Stephanie Deal and NursingCAS.

It will forever baffle me how respected, accredited universities chose to get into bed with such a dubious company as NursingCAS. Surely they know it's reputation among applicants by now?

Sorry to hear about your verification issues. I'm curious, what makes you say that your application will be automatically rejected without the Nutrition grade? Wouldn't they treat it the same as an outstanding pre-req and just request updated grades? If that's the only snag in your application, I can't imagine them denying you outright. Hopefully Stephanie is able to provide some clarification on that front. Keep us posted and try to stay positive in the meantime!

Back in the day (like 10 years ago haha) when I started out in college without knowing what my plans are, I enrolled in a Nutrition class and slacked off. I actually meant to drop it and missed the deadline, so I got a D in that class. Without my recent A, it makes me an auto denial- you can't have lower than C's in pre-reqs.

Angela got back with me today and offered to manually enter in my course and update my gpa! Thank goodness! NursingCAS is still refusing to show me in their policies where it says they won't verify completed courses that were taken in the same semester. I demanded a refund and they also refused. They're lucky she was willing to help me.

She did say it had to be submitted by tomorrow afternoon, so I am thinking that the applications are finishing up being processed! Getting close now.

I still anticipate being waitlisted, but even that is an accomplishment for me. Just hoping I don't get outright rejected! Trusting that what's supposed to happen will happen.

Hope everyone is doing well during the waiting game.

Glad I'm not the only one who's concerned about being accepted! Good luck, everyone! I've been nervous ever since I hit submit! I graduated a couple of years ago with a science bachelor's. I had already taken all but 1 prerequisite, so I'm finishing that one up in December. My overall GPA was a 3.7, but my science was a little lower.

Yes, she is!! She helped me out with a weird CAS problem, too.
