Before I ask my BON send the results to CGFNS, I want to know - I live in WA and plan to work in my town, but I registered for my NCLEX with Oregon BON because WA required CGFNS exam prior to NCLEX. Since it's the Oregon BON that will be sending my test results to CGFNS, I wonder if that will force me to have an employer in OR too? Or does it not matter?
Also, I'm in the U.S. on the student visa (1 year of studies left). What should I do next? Get an immigration attorney?
Thanks!

To send your results to CGFNS you do not need an employer
Ok, thanks!

If you are going to work in WA, you will need to endorse to there and meet the requirements for endorsement.
CGFNS only wishes to see that you passed the NCLEX exam, they do not care about which state that you took the exam for. You are not required to work in any state that you have a license in.
I have been licensed in the past in some states and never entered them. Things changed after I had applied. Makes no difference.
But since you do not have a SSN#, then you cannot use the endorsement process as there is no license number to endorse. You are going to need to wait until you have a SSN# to endorse, however you may run into some problems with not having a current WA license when you apply for a job, if you do not have an offer already. Some hospitals can be very funny that way.
Just want you to be prepared for this.

Where are you in Washington State? I moved from Washington to Arizona about 9 months ago. I found that not many employers even in the Seattle area are willing to petition. I inquired many employers at a career fair in Seattle around spring of 2006. And most want you to work for about a year before proceeding to ensure you are a good fit and for many foreign nurses after OPT is exhausted that doesnt give many options to stay in the US. Just wasn't sure if you were aware of this. Things are always changing but the demand for new grads was not as high in Washington State as in other states,. I have an American US RN friend who graduated last Spring (2007) and she is having difficulty getting a hospital job since graduating and being licenced in Washington State. May not be true of nursing home jobs though, since I was looking for work in a hospital.
I'm from Spokane. I'm not too focused on getting a job here, the only reason I want it in my town because I'm comfortable here. I don't mind moving out though, so if I have to apply elsewhere, I will.

My BON told me that I need to send them some form explaining why I don't have SSN, and then they will issue a license (probably temporary). They sent me the form via mail so that I fill it out and send it back to them, which is hopefully supposed to take care of this issue.
Temporary licenses cannot be endorsed either. It must be a permanent license to have it endorsed. That is the point that I am trying to make to you.
Oh, now I get it, thanks for clarifying. Hopefully I find a hospital here that is not stuck up on this issue. Hopefully...
But as the other poster mentioned, there has not been many hospitals up there that have been petitioning. Please keep that in mind.
