Hi, so I need some advice. I really didn't believe that it would be this hard! So, I have my 8 years of nursing ex, I have a brand new comp, I have my CLNC (yea!), I have a suit, now I'm lost! I thought this marketing stuff would be easy:uhoh3: It's not, at least not for me. Every time I try to think about it, or to work on a CV or resume I kinda freeze. I have developed a block about it, almost. I have read, I think, every thread here and still am not sure what to do next. Advice?

Where did take your courses from? Have you sought help from anyone who runs the program your got your CLNC from? Do you have a mentor? I'm not of much help because I am currently enrolled in a program to become a LNC, but some of the programs I researched have offered Mentors. Many also have their own private forums. Have you checked on the forum from where you studied? I've also read it takes time and requires some work. Good luck.

I took vickies m's program. they have mentors but they can't help you with marketing, that was the first thing I checked. I just need, like a list, I need to do this, this and this, if you know what I mean. Some structure. It probably is not that easy but it would make me happy

hello, crissrn27,

please do try again for the mentors are excellent at helping you with marketing ideas. that's one reason they are there; to assist you!! they will even review your materials to see how they read, review content, etc. so, please do re-connect with them.

also, your core book has chapters about marketing techniques complete with templates for letters and helpful information.

have you read through this thread?

if you have specific questions regarding marketing, please post here and/or send me a private message.

The marketing kit contains tools such as business cards, letterhead, etc., but the mentors still can offer advice on marketing techniques without your having to purchase the kit. Just ask to speak with a mentor. It isn't necessary to go into detail with the screener.

Also, go the website and click on, "NACLNC Community". Place your password and you can receive information regarding marketing there, too.

I remember Vicki saying, "this is not easy." Referring to marketing not the services we provide.

Remember she said, "Join Toastmasters." I know she said a lot and we don't remember it all. It sounds like you need Toastmasters. Go to http://www.toastmasters.org and click on find a club. It will be unusual if you can not find a club near you.

Go join. I can not sing the praises of Toastmasters any higher. When someone tells you it changes lives believe it. You will be scared out of your pants but join anyway. Participate. Do your manuals.

You will learn how to present yourself. How to sell yourself, and your services. Attend meetings faithfully.

Marketing is not a one shot deal. You have to keep pounding on the same doors over and over to even get their attention.

After you join Toastmasters google anything business related.

ex:

business,coaches,marketingselling'copywriting. small business. etc.

Then after you have been in Toastmasters for a while take a deep breath and give a presentation outside of your Toastmasters club. You could speak at your church or the chamber of commerce the Kiwanas or if feeling really brave and best of all your local bar association. Then you will begin to feel better about marketing. Even then don't quit Toastmasters and keep finding resources to learn about marketing, selling and running a business.

Ok sorry I am beyond exhaustion here but too stupid to stop and sleep. You are probably wondering why I am recommending Learning to do public speaking. Toastmasters will help you organize your thoughts, into a something crisp. It will help you think on your feet when you are finally face to face or on the phone with the attorney. It will teach you about the art of persuasion which is what marketing is. It will teach you how to present yourself as an equal with an attorney.

This is a skill you must do it to lean it. You will have mentors to guide you and help you though this learning process. You will have a very safe environment to try out your marketing and get some valuable feed back without having to risk yourself trying it out on a perspective client.

I met several attorneys years ago and still continue to in and through Toastmasters. This is where I learned they are no smarter than we are. I learned they are just the same and we enjoy a lost of the same things. Yep I was intimidated the day two new people showed up and they were both PI lawyers (years before I was a LNC) After we became friends I told them how intimidated I was by them and they were asking Why!?

Excellent advice, Agnus.

Agree the organizations in your own area help immensely to get you motivated and build confidence.

Local and State Bar Associations, Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, etc. I belong to Toastmasters and the Chamber locally and the ABA as an associate. Last Fall, I exhibited on a major level at the National ABA meeting in Hawaii. That was an awesome experience. Really instilled confidence to build up to that exhibit by presenting locally.

One caveat for those who might be thinking you have to join all these organizations to speak. You do not. They on the other hand are always looking for speakers. Kiwanis clubs for example must have a speaker ever single week, and you do them a favor if you can fill that need.

If you are feeling stuck or shy or have writers block don't start in those places. Start with a Membership in Toastmasters. Heck even if you are accomplished in this area start with Toastmasters. There sole purpose is helping you develop your speaking and leadership skills. It is a workshop not a service club. It is focused on the education of its members. It is extremely inexpensive. Best investment I ever made. If you stick around enough and are involved enough you meet world class speaker who knock you socks off and they still continue to go to Toastmasters to work on themselves. And boy those world class speakers are very generous with their help to other members.
