OHSU BSN PDX program applicants - 2010

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

Hi,

Anyone else out there getting anxious to hear from OHSU's Portland campus for their BSN program? They said they'll notify in early May which is still a month away, but I just want to know now! It's my first time applying and the only program that I applied to this year, so I'm not counting on it.

Good luck to everyone!

:)

CuriousMe,

How's the course load during Sophomore year? I'm hoping to work part-time during the program. And how soon should I start looking for an apartment in Ashland or should I live in Medford? Sorry about the twenty questions...just so excited to find someone going through the OHSU Ashland program. Any tips/Advice would be greatly appreciated.

I sent you a private message....seems a bit mean to have this conversation here while folks are still waiting to hear.

Peace,

CuriousMe

hi raechal-emt :i checked the box for all of the campuses. then i called ohsu again and asked if it will affect my alternate status for ashland. they said that it doesn't matter which box i chose because they made me as an alternate for ashland and that's where i will be considered first. i guess as long as you decided to remain as an alternate then it doesn't matter which campus you choose on the form.

I'm a junior in the Ashland program. I just wanted to let you know that quite a few of my friends, who are in the program with me now, were alternates. Don't give up hope!! and Congrats on getting an alternate spot!

THANKS FOR THIS INFORMATION!!!I hope that we will get in! I hate waiting and not knowing anything. I already checked out housing in Ashland. I am afraid if they call last minute to tell me that i got in and then how would i get all of my documentation and everything else on time? Do you have any suggestions, should i start gathering all info right now or wait?Thank you!!!It's so exciting to talk to somebody from the campuses that i might potentially go!!!!!!!:)

Summer10,

...I hope that's true about OHSU using alternates because I find it hard to believe that anyone would pass up their spot. Oh well...we'll see. :)

Actually, I can't imagine that every single person who was accepted will take the position, so don't lose hope. My guess is that the majority of the people who were accepted have also been accepted elsewhere, and I would think that at least a few of them are likely to choose other schools. Several of the other programs finish a lot sooner and that makes them quite attractive. Additionally, there are pros and cons to the various programs and what is a good fit for one person may not be for another, so OHSU may not be their top choice.

Even though OHSU was originally my school of choice, after careful consideration I had actually already decided that if I made it into the OHSU OCNE program I was still going to choose Linfield.

Hang in there! You never know! :)

Hey guys!

Thanks for the encouragement...it does make me feel better to know that there are people who decide to go elsewhere. Also that there are students at the Ashland campus who were alternates. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much though just in case. Just have to wait and see if I get that phone call!! But thanks guys and good luck to everyone!!

Ya...that is disappointing that you didn't get in, even with a great gpa! My letter is in the mail right now...but I'm not in town to get it! I'm getting really scared hearing about all these people that didn't get in! (I also applied to Monmouth). I hope a spot opens up for you!! Hang in there!

You might consider just going ahead and taking care of your immunizations and such. It can't hurt. Most alternates find out pretty close to the deadline folks have to send their intention to attend the program (mid-June I think).

As far as housing, you could always look into the dorms. They have apartment style dorms, and it's really convenient to be on campus sophomore year.

I'm new to the forum and wanted to congratulate everyone that got accepted and also placed on the alternate list. It's quite an accomplishment!!!

I was curious if anyone received or heard anything about MHCC part-time program and CCC's as well?

I got my ohsu rejection letter today :( but I did get invited for an interview at mt. Hood for the part time program. I think my strategy paid off since only 50 people applied and the top 40 get interviews. I hope the others waiting on ohsu get better news!

Wow, that was kind of my strategy too but I had no idea so few people applied. I got invited for an interview as well but have already been accepted into Linfield.

Linfield Pros: 2 years (more time to work), Bachelors Degree, academic slant

Linfield Cons: Hella expensive

MHCC pros: cheap-er, lot more skills based

MHCC cons: 9 terms or 3 years at MHCC plus 1 year at OHSU for Bachelor Degree

Zatoichi- I got my letter on saturrday for the part time program. I would guess that you will hear today or tomorrow. good luck!

I am so curious on how this process works.....does anyone know how the alternate process for OHSU works?? I know that if someone gives up their spot one opens for an alternate....but why don't they want you to know how many alternates there are and where you stand on the list? Also....do you think there are as many alternates as people accepted? I'm dying to know how this works.....any seasoned alternates etc out there?
