Starting this family nursing course in January and from what I hear this is going to be a hard course. I am looking for the support of my fellow class mates, or any hints from those who have previously taken the class. Thank You.

Specializes in Med/Surg, Neuro, ICU, travel RN, Psych.

I'm in.. although I am in no way ready to return to class:***: Last semester for me, whooo hoooo. Although I do still have to take Cross Cultural and Chem. It's going to be a :poop: semester. Plus stats and EBP together.. yuck. If I don't post for a bit, then you know the load did me in.

Didi, when the heck did you become a guide?

Last semester for me too! Family this five weeks, 2 nursing courses next 5 weeks, then 4600! I also have chem and child development/psychology to finish up but nursing will be done before they can change anything again! I started needing 20 something classes and I am down to 6.

This is my last semester also! Only needed the 9 nursing classes and statistics. Took 4 nursing classes and stats last semester. Taking the last five nursing classes this semester and then I'm done!!!!!

Specializes in Psych/AOD.

Seems that several of us will be finishing up soon. After this class I'll be taking Community in February and 4600 in March and then I'm finished. SOOOO looking forward to being done. There are still no details for the lab/clinical component for 4600 and I wish they would get on the ball with those details. I wish everyone all the best in this Family class!

Yes I thought it was pretty sad that as an enrolled student currently forking out tuition, I had to find out about the clinical component from Facebook of all places. Calls and emails only get the response that information will be forthcoming. Hopefully someone will give us a clue before class starts. Then again, maybe I am being too optimistic. ;-).

Good luck to all and to those who will be done with nursing or OU in just 15 short weeks!

How did you do 4 nursing classes and stats in one semester!?? You are a brave woman. I know I have to pick up the pace, or I will be OLD when I get done.

Believe me there were times I thought I was insane. I'll probably feel that way again this semester. I just think of the semester in 5 week increments and I tell myself I can do anything for five weeks! I just wanted to be done in the shortest time possible. I am looking forward to being done and enjoying life without school for a while!!!!!

I read someone had posted that they got a response to an email or something saying it will be more of a "project" than an actual clinical. It will be able to be done at your place of employment if you work, or somewhere in the community if not. They are doing it more as a lab is my understanding.

I heard family was a horrible class, but this doesn't look that bad to me. Maybe it gets worse as you are in the assignments?

Ohhh so there is group work that makes it so horrible. I guess I didn't read very well.

Maybe they made some changes since summer when it was offered. I thought I read something about winter last year having quizzes, and we have none of those. But even though we are placed into groups, it's simply for the case studies. The work is individual. Maybe I'm just getting used to the program and expect the classes to be a lot of work, but it seems to be about what all the classes run, which is a lot as it's all crammed into 5 weeks. It is considered an accelerated program though. We're doing a 3 or 4 credit class in 5 weeks. Guess we will see how it goes!

The midterm and the final are what makes Family so hideous. Group projects can be a challenge but I was fortunate to have a good bunch to work with. Just do your part - and comment and add suggestions to what your group members post and you will be fine for that part of the class. Hopefully the instructor has changed and there has been a tremendous adjustment in what is covered on the midterm and final exams. Good luck.
