Would They Hire Me In OB?? - School Nurse

Specialties Ob/Gyn

My school nursing contract is up June 1st, and I would like to know honestly, if they would hire me onto an OB unit. I graduated with a BSN Dec.2011, but after many failed attempts to get hired in a hospital, I took the only job that was offered to me (a school nurse position). My dream job would be on an OB unit, or even nursery. But with no clinical background of any kind, I am doubtful they would even take a second look at me. For those on OB units and who help with hiring/interviewing, would y'all take a second look at me after know my working experience??? In all honesty.... thanks.

Of course someone would hire you, everyone has to start somewhere. Just keep trying!

Well you're no longer considered a "new grad"... so just highlight the experience you have as a school nurse, and tell them your dream job is OB/women's services. If they know you are willing to learn, and have a good work ethic, I'm sure they would be happy to train you! Good luck! Some units want experience of course... but my unit just hired new grads for both mother/baby and also for L&D. So you never know!

I was hired as a new grad into L&D. Some hospitals do it and some don't. shift your resume to focus on child care, and if you land an interview try to relate it all.

Posting from my phone, ease forgive my fat thumbs! :)

I was just verbally given a offer for L&D @ New York Presbyterian,my current job is school nurse with DOH. They were very strict with having past experience in med-surg and a BSN. I have 7 years of nursing experience in 4 different specialty. I honestly think it all depends on which hospital you are applying to. Some hire new grads so aim for those type of hospitals. One huge advice is to find out the name of the nursing recruiter and stay in contact. show him or her your true passion and desire to work in womens health. You will get it sooner or later Good luck :-)
