Is there such thing that you cannot wear a tampon when you are on your period?

You might also try inserting only the slimmest tampon on only your heaviest day until you get the knack of it. Don't worry, millions of women have done this before you. You will figure it out.

thanks so much..sometimes I feel like I am the only girl! I dont want to talk about it with my mom and my sister, so I decided to come on here and talk. I havn't been on this website since like September. So thanks everyone and if you have anymore advice, please feel free to say!

Your period serves a purpose; it washes pathogens from the body. You don't get that with a tampon.

Where's the proof of this?

My thougths exactly...if it was needed to wash pathogens, why would the FDA have approved Seasonale, the drug that reduces the number of cycles to only 4 per year?

Ooops sorry I see my mistake. Went back and corrected.

I had the same problem when I first started trying to use tampons. I tried to use them many times but couldn't get them in. But eventually (when I was 14) I got it to work. You just need to learn to relax so the tampon can get past the outer muscle and get inside. I also find that I have to tilt the tampon to the side when I put it in. I've always found plastic applicators to be the best for inserting tampons because they slide well, but make sure you're not dry down there or else it will be harder and more painful. Keep trying. I think they're one of the greatest inventions ever because I personally cannot stand pads and hardly use them anymore. You'll get it eventually, it just takes time. :)

There are slim fit for teenagers with a plastic applicator that you might try.

I just asked my 15 year old and she said she read the directions and practiced. She didn't have a problem. I remember having a problem though - didn't use them until I was in my 20's.

Good luck.

I mean just when you are on your period if there is such thing that you cannot wear one. Ive tried before to use one but I feel that I am either doing it wrong or that I cantwear it..does that make sense?

You may have chosen one that is too large or you didn't "tilt it" when inserting. You are supposed to tilt it posteriorly when inserting.

thanks...what exactly do you mean by "tilting"?

I had the same problem too. Tried first when I was 14.(I am 30 Now) It just hurt! I was also scared to try again. But, eventually I did try again and had no other problems.

Turns out on my first try I did several things wrong.

1.-I put it in when I was not even on my period.:uhoh3: Just thought I'd test it out to see what it was like. 2.- I did not have it inserted all the way. 3.- I used a cheap cardboard applicator and it hurt pretty bad. I ended up using Kotex brand with a plastic applicator and have used them ever since! I also think it's easier to sit straight up on the toilet and insert with your arm behind your back . Maybe put a little water on the tip to make insertion easier also.

Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it. The things us girls have to go through! :p

LUBE. use lubricating jelly... like KY Jelly or something along those lines. makes things slide ever so nicely into place.

I am 15 and I have had my period for more than a year. Ive obviously never had children. I dont want to go to the doctor or anything because I am scared. Both my older sister and my mom use the plastic ones but I use pads. I am kinda sick of them because when I go to the beach I have to wear shorts and stuff.

i did not wear a tampon until i was 18. i too had trouble with them. i just didn't like the thought of putting it in.

i think you are both tense and a little uncomfortable with your body. if i were you, i'd get the smallest size available and use the playtex plastic curved ones. first, relax!!!! many girls go through this. slightly open your legs and slowly and gently insert the tube until your fingers touch your labia. you should stop and take a few breaths at this point. you're half way there. then slowly push the applicator and the tampon should be placed up nice and high up in the lady parts which makes it almost unnoticable. if it is really uncomfortable, it may be too low. remove it slowly. try again a little while later, so you're not so tense.

so relax!! just try to get it in, that's your first step.

if you just can't do it, wait and try again in like 3 months. maybe as you grow, you will be more successful.

many of us wore shorts in the summer just like you. and many more girls will in the future. it's ok. you'll be able to use tampns when YOU'RE ready.

best wishes and good luck
