Harfdmedlegal, you aren't the type I would call a battlehorse:) That title I use exclusively for the type I described (nurses who refuse to keep up to date as some sort of merrit badge). You would be worshipped as an experienced nurse! Big difference!

Jan, winter lasts too long for a sweater! Did you know that Edmonton gets more sun than any major city in Canada? Problem is, it can be sunny and -30! My dog would wither up and die. The best thing about California is getting a sunburn and having your air con on in February!

We have one right now that sounds like the Policy and Procedure handbook. "You can't do this because (fill in applying rule here)." I swear she studies that thing in her spare time.

Which DEFINATELY wouldn't be a bad thing if she PRACTICED what she preached, which she doesn't always do, on very vital things.

Thank God she's PRN. I would need Xanax to get through a whole shift with her.

That is funny Marie, lol hang in there!

Have any of you ever worked with a nurse who THINKS she knows it all but is truly very unskilled in her specialty? These are scary people!! Let's compare :crying2: :imbar :rotfl: notes!

Isn't it strange that they all seem to climb the ladder very fast? :angryfire

Specializes in ICU, CCU, Trauma, neuro, Geriatrics.

Many of these nurses should have gone into sales instead of nursing.

Wow, it takes a lot of arrogance to think you know it all when you're fresh from school - my sister, who has been a nurse much longer than me, told me you don't learn anything until you're working, and is that ever true.

I think it was because the know it all nurse that one poster was talking about was Canadian, so it is only natural that would lead to the trashing of the whole Canadian healthcare system:)

Dear BETSRN, I think we all have come across somebody like that, at one time or another. Even though I have worked in many different areas of nursing (ICU, Home Health, Clinics, Nursing Education, etc.) I always ask, no I INSIST, on orientation/training/preceptorship. And, even when I am comfortable, I continue to ask questions. Sometimes, people criticize others out of their own feelings of insecurity or maybe they are just miserable in general. There is nothing wrong, if you are a confident and competent nurse. But, realize your limits, respect your co-workers feelings, and even if you are, :nurse: "Florence Nightingale of Nursing", don't forget to be humble. Interesting thought! :) Have a good day! 91C_ARMYLPN
