Taking the RNC-OB exam...

  1. Hi everyone!

I'm taking the RNC-OB exam right before Christmas and I was wondering if any of you who have taken the exam could give me any pointers, suggestions, or any help? I bought Perinatal Nursing by Simpson and Creehan and have started to study it and take the exams in the back of the book. Is there another book or any online exams you would recommend?

Also....I've read very conflicting stories about how many questions are on the exam? Is 150 the minimum and 175 the maximum? I'm just trying to prepare myself for the lowest number of questions I will receive and the maximum number I could receive?

Any help you could give me would be much appreciated!!

I didn't really study for it. I had been an L&D RN for about four years when I took it. You need to know your commonly used medications pretty thoroughly (indications, contraindications, side effects, etc), understand EFM Categories, and perhaps brush up on normal newborn information. Otherwise, your daily practice as an L&D RN should be preparation enough. I don't remember the number of questions.
