The Obstetric Medical-Legal Conference, presented by The Boston University School of Medicine, will be held September 27-28, 2018 at the Fairmont Copley Hotel in Boston, MA. This year's theme is Integrative Team Approach to Improving Patient Safety, Avoiding Litigation and Enhancing the Joy of Obstetrical Practice.

Goal of the Conference

The goal is to share practical system improvements to keep the obstetrical team away from the courtroom or the labor and delivery floor and enhance the joy of obstetrical practice. 73% of OB/GYN have one professional liability claim filed against them in their careers. With an average of 2.59 claims per OB/GYN of these 41% had at least one professional claim while still in residency training. 3.9% of obstetricians stopped performing deliveries because of insurance affordability or availability (ACOG).

Objectives of this Conference

  • Identify effective strategies to improve collaborative practicing obstetricians
  • Describe processes to improve patient care and decreases exposure to litigation in obstetrics
