Need advice about which dept of OB is best

  1. I am a second year ADN student and I am in my OB rotation right now. The hospital we are at has a Mother/Baby unit separate from Labor/Delivery. I really feel that OB is the area or speciality I want to work in. However, I'm struggling with which part of OB do I like more. I have been in both areas, but due to time constraints I have not got to see everything that goes on. I would really appreciate any advice from nurses who have worked both areas and will share with me the pros and cons of both. Thanks !

In most hospitals you'll be crosstrained to both areas, and in some, required to float.

I do L&D just because I like the adrenaline, I like bonding with patients for a short time, then going on to someone else. I work in a tertiary high-risk unit that has state-wide referrals, so I get a lot of medicine, emergency, critical care, and normal OB. I love it.

    Good Luck!!
