FAVD in midwifery practice

I was just curious to how many CNM's use forceps.

I can not find any literature on the scope of practice in the use of forceps. I have heard from several that it is like getting cridentials in 4th degree repairs. If you have 4-5 supervised observations you can be cridentialled in it. Most JCAHO guidelines say it depends on your clinical protocols but I was curious to how other CNM's have came to use forceps.

Usually the vacuum is used instead but I know someone who uses forceps exclusively and when needed the results are much less traumatic than a vacuum every time. I would like to add this skill later in the case that it may be needed in an emergency and was looking for CNM's who use forceps.

please feel free to email privately if you don't want to post.

Thanks,

Jared
