Do mom's still use Sitz baths ?!

I've been a PP nurse for over 4 years and give out sitz baths to all lady partsl deliveries with tears or discomfort. I've only seen mom use it . I go over the instructions and they verbalize understanding but still don't use the Sitz bath. One FOB even advised a mom against stating "just lean over in the shower and spread your cheeks, it's the same thing ". So do your mom's still use Sitz baths or are they just a waste of money ?

I don't think I've seen it used once. We just use the peri bottle.

Well, I was given a sitz bath when my oldest was born and never used it in the hospital, but it was a lifesaver when I got home! Maybe the new moms are embarrassed to use it in the hospital and could be encouraged to take it home at least?

Never offered one with any of my 5 kids. Now aged 18-8. I do remember the peri bottle. Life savers!

Yes I do encourage them to use it at home. I agree that the peri bottle does work wonders !

I give my patients the sitz bath if they are having slit if pain. It saved me when I had my first child with a third degree. I believe in them.

It's great if they don't have a tub to soak in at home. But in my experience a sita bath is most effective with Epsom salts. Especially for 3rd degree and large hemorrhoids.

We used on or second day pp patients all the time where I work. It's up to patients whether they use it or not but I always instruct offer and do it if they are ok with it. However in my prn job it's never offered I don't even think they stock them unfortunately so I think it also depends on the culture of the hospital

We instruct are pp to use them. I have even set up some of them for pts to use. So yes they are still used

At the hospital where I volunteer, we have sitz baths and peri bottles for new moms after delivery in postpartum. We also give the new moms peri bottles and sitz baths to take home with them if they have tears or lacerations with instructions on how to use both.

I'm not an OB nurse, but I have had 2 kids lady partslly with second degree tears on both, and I never used a sitz bath. I personally felt the peri bottle and dermoplast spray was sufficient for me. Actually I dont think my PP nurses ever mentioned the sitz bath to me, although I did learn about them in mother baby clinical in nursing school.

I still educate my moms. I just feel like the majority do t use them and it's a waste of money to stock them
