Hello, I am looking to start the program in Fall of 2017! I'm looking to meet students and take this journey together and share our experience
Right, I've also thought about maybe just cutting way back on my work hours during the summer pharmacology class. One of my concerns is that they don't know at my job that I'm about to go into the rn program and the cat will be out of the bag when I start the pharmacology class. I've been seriously considering quitting my job and just focusing on the program. And maybe applying for contingent nurse aide jobs. I have the gi bill and I don't have to work every week if it interferes with this. I also have a 12 almost 13 year old daughter and I'm her only parent. I'm a cashier and it's unrelated to nursing, so I think a contingent na job would be more beneficial anyway.
I am a mother of 5 and and wife! I am thankful that I will not be working during the program via the full support of the hubby . this has a been a roller coaster for me and trying to reach my dreams of becoming an RN. A 7 Yr rollercoaster emotionallly mentally and physically I am more than determine to do this I can see through this thread feelings are mutual from the people on here I can't wait to meet you all
Omg I hear you studentmom10. Been a rollercoaster for me as well. I also thank god I have some extra financial help in place especially since I'm single. I do think the timing is right though because if I would have done this during the recession it would have been much harder to get a new grad job after graduation. I really do think things are falling into place the way they should.
Hi everyone, I'm back!! I've been trying to ignore the date but it's now March 10, 2017.. OCC officially has 5 days to get those letters out! I'm sure that they will release the letters early but they won't let us know that the letters have been released (officially) util the 15th. If they are thinking about accepting less applicants this year, my best guess it that there are less qualified applicants.
That's so weird that a lot of us feel the same way about the roller coaster ride it took to get into nursing school and it being fated now- I feel exactly the same way. I've been on the 10 year track myself LOL. I actually got into the program last year but was struggling with post postpartum depression really bad, I just wasn't ready to begin the journey into the nursing program- but I am now!! And it's my last chance before my credits expire so I really hope that I get in.
One of my best friends is in OCC's program and she works. I asked her about it and she said that she has a mortgage to pay off and a wedding to pay for.. so I know it is possible to work while in the program and achieve passing grades, but discouraged nonetheless. Basically, we agreed that you have to do what you have to do in order to succeed and manage life at the same time.
Good luck to everyone! Hope to hear that we all get into the program!
Hi jolene and welcome back! Yes I was also thinking that maybe some of the applicants this year are less qualified. And yes everything definitely does happen for a reason. Now is a great time for us to do this. Getting into and going through nursing school is never easy, but we're going to have a lot better time of it than the students during the recession did
Hello! I wanted to chime in and tell you guys a few things I was told. So my very best friend applied for the program last year and she was denied... she had a lot of retakes and her score was kind of low. But her letter stated in it that the cut off score was 11.96. She had a 10 which she knew was low. She retook more classes and reapplied again this year with me. So we're crossing our fingers. But I just called the nursing office on my lunch break and the very overwhelmed lady answering the phones told me the sending out of the letter got delayed.... and they aren't even being MAILED til the 21st now...... and then she rudely hung up before I could ask any questions. Let me know if anyone else calls and if they say the same thing or something different. Thanks

yes they give you the option to take it one semester prior to the start of the program, and it is completely up to you if you want to take it or not.
