Hello All,
I have recently completed a Bachelor of Nursing (Nov 2013) in New Zealand and I am awaiting my NCNZ Registration to come through. I would love to try to get a new grad position (2014) in Melbourne. I know that I have missed the annual state intake for the public new graduate program. Does anyone have any advice or know if there are private new graduate programs offered? Is this a realistic prospect? If so, where would be a good place to start?
I can't wait to work as an RN so any advice or experiences shared would be fantastic!
Thank you for your help,
E x

Congratulations on completing your degree.
Not sure if you are aware, but many, many, Australian graduates still do not have work for next year. There are Facebook pages to offer support and form lobby groups.
Many of the private, hospitals and nursing homes take on nurses with no experience or run grad programs and offer to all, overseas nurses as well, so you see there are plenty of nurses to apply and many with no experience and no work over here.
Government hospitals which do have criteria as must have work rights, have the past few years offered mid year graduate positions and spasmodic throughout the year, this is the only thing I
can suggest, keep a vigilant look out on hospital recruitment websites. Good luck.
Might be best to gain some experience at home first if this is possible, then you have at least experience to offer employers in Australia in the future
Hi Ceridwyn,
Thank you for your reply. I did not know that about Aus new grads -seems to be a similar situation in NZ. I will keep your advice in mind and watch the hospital recruitment sites. Perhaps a years experience here will a better option? The world is my oyster...after my new grad year
Sounds like a plan. Good luck with your career and most important, Have fun.
