NYU ABSN FAll 2021

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey, this is super duper early but I figured we could get some questions, fears, or concerns talked through until March 1, 2021, for priority or April 1, 2021, for the regular decision to NYU's ABSN 15 month program for non-nurses. Please don't be afraid, Please share stats if you are comfortable doing so. It really does help cohorts after us figure out strengths and weaknesses to be better applicants. Hey, after all, It's all about helping each other out at the end of the day, right! Don't be shy, talk about where you're from and things you may be worried about for the application process. As well as other schools you might be applying for!

Yea I was rejected from the program as well and I was crushed but now I’m going to retake a few of my pre-reps over to increase my GPA for next year.

That sounds like an amazing idea. Honestly, everything happens for a reason and all we can do is stay positive and look towards the future. At the end of the day, acceptance into these programs sometimes just comes down to pure luck since all applicants are highly competitive and have degrees. Don't let it get to you and honestly, consider other programs that are MUCH cheaper. $100k+ for a program that is the same as all the other ABSN/entry level programs that you can find across the nation for around $32-50k is a bit....insane. Raise that GPA, strengthen your application, you got this!! ?

I don't entirely agree with you tbh and that's a very one sided view on the two programs. The direct entry MSN programs provide the same foundation as the ABSN program and they typically take the same length to complete. There are programs for both paths that do not necessarily prepare you the best and it ultimately comes down to YOUR performance and how YOU do during clinical rounds. Also, the classes are relatively the same across the board so there is not much of difference in the type of education you are receiving.

Coming out of a program as an NP with hardly any TRUE bedside experience is absolutely ludicrous (especially in a post-COVID world) on multiple fronts. I wouldn't call it a "one-sided view" but rather, an 'opinion.'

To each his/her own but there are MANY hiring managers who are very reluctant to hire such an applicant given the fact that their title (NP) and actual experience level is not congruent by any means.

Again, YMMV! Good luck though with whatever you choose to do!

If you don't mind what were your stats? Im very interested in the 2022 program!

Hi! I know this thread is kind of dead but if you were accepted into the program could you please let me know what you're doing for textbooks? They're so expensive it's crazy. I've been trying to find them on amazon but no luck

I tried looking elsewhere but had no luck as well. I ended up going through the NYU bookstore.

Hi, yea they are sooo expensive! I did the same as @Jade Spade and bought from the school bookstore. I asked their return policy as they generally won't take returns after Sept 11 as its the first week of school. Since we start the 13th they will take returns on a case by case basis. I'm not going to open the books/access cards, until we know for sure that we'll use them.

I think that the books/access codes are slightly cheaper straight from the publisher, only about ~$20 savings for the access codes and ~$30 for the books if I remember correctly so nothing huge. I'm just gonna wait to see what access codes I need and just buy them from the publisher. I just awkwardly took a pic of the books in the store so I could search for them online when I went to pick up my name tag.

Thanks! I think I might just purchase them from the book store. Also, I just want to clarify because I think I might be confused, the name tag is different from the NYU card, right??

Yeah two different things. You can pick up the NYU card from the card center and the name tag from the checkout counter at the store.
