Hey, this is super duper early but I figured we could get some questions, fears, or concerns talked through until March 1, 2021, for priority or April 1, 2021, for the regular decision to NYU's ABSN 15 month program for non-nurses. Please don't be afraid, Please share stats if you are comfortable doing so. It really does help cohorts after us figure out strengths and weaknesses to be better applicants. Hey, after all, It's all about helping each other out at the end of the day, right! Don't be shy, talk about where you're from and things you may be worried about for the application process. As well as other schools you might be applying for!

Many individuals seem to have been out of college for several years and have incredible work experience on their resumes, making me think I should do the same and apply in later years to be just as competitive...
NYU is the only school I applied for this cycle because I genuinely believed I had a chance of getting in, but now I'm just waiting for my rejection letter at this point.
Sorry for the tangent; it's been a particularly frustrating couple of weeks, which is not what I had hoped for, especially with graduation approaching this weekend.
Congratulations again to everyone who has been accepted thus far. You're all going to be incredible nurses!
I graduated in December of 2020 but I was supposed to graduate this May. Don't be discouraged! I thought I wasn't going to get in. I've never worked a day in my life (apart from a lab facilitating job at school that I had for a semester but I don't think that really counts LOL). The most healthcare-related experience I got was volunteering 50 hours at my local hospital. That's it. And my stats weren't even amazing (3.5 undergrad GPA and 3.2 pre-req GPA).
I always get depressed when I've seen others shadow/intern/ or get any type of experience in healthcare since I have none. Right now I'm looking for a job or some type of healthcare experience I can do over the Summer here in NJ. If you don't get in maybe you can look into something like that and try again next cycle!
I really hope you get accepted tho!
I thought I'd chime in just to offer a totally different perspective as we are all wondering exactly how decisions are made. Talking with one another can definitely help so I wanted to throw my thoughts out there. ?
So I'm feeling pretty anxious as a career changer who just turned 31 and decided to go back and take pre-reqs almost a decade after I graduated. I know this recent discussion is more geared toward the fear of not having enough work experience to be a viable candidate, but contrarily, I am worried that my long stint in customer service management and restaurants will be seen as "I didn't care about nursing to pursue it sooner" -- when in reality it was just the career that I took because I wanted to be able to make a living for myself. I did attend a good school for undergrad but I worry that a B+ average is a B+ average in this competitive realm.
My GPA for my science pre-reqs is 3.9, but my undergrad GPA from graduating in 2012 was 3.13 and I am frustrated that it might hinder my success in getting into an ABSN program. I have shown an upward trend, and I put in my resume and personal statement that I had to work 40 hours a week during all my undergrad years so that's a major reason why my grades from that time aren't stellar, but I keep wondering if there is any chance that I'll get into a NY area school. I'd love to know more about the selection process but I suppose it really is just holistic; as corny as it sounds I'd hold onto the positives of being young and just graduating since I'm now worried I won't be able to start nursing as a career til I'm ... 50? (I kid but LOL)
Just for transparency I applied to Molloy, SUNY Downstate, NYU, and St. Joseph's in BK, and haven't heard anything from any of these schools yet minus a letter informing me of being on the waitlist for St. Joe's. But yeah just wanted to throw that out there, I know we're all on edge right now so I feel you in every sense of the word. I hope we get some sort of decision soon! Rooting for us ?
Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to respond to my question. My parents give me the "It's okay, you're only 22" excuse every week, which is true but doesn't help in this situation, haha. So reading about your unique experiences of getting admitted into the program this early in your career gives me some optimism. I'm hoping to join you this fall, but I'll just have to wait and see. Once again, congratulations on your recent and upcoming graduations, as well as your acceptances!

Hey there thanks for sharing this. I think I will take my time to chime in and respond to the previous post as well.
I actually started school again at age 28 for nursing while being a mom to a 5 yr old and working full time. Needless to say it didn’t really work out well, my grades took the toll and I ended up with two C’s in my pre requisites.
I got a ton of of input on how I would not make the cut in any CUNY schools and so I decided to pursue my degree in Public Health and I finish last year with a 3.3 GPA and a 4.0 in my Sociology minor.
I also worried terribly that my resume as a nanny for the past 10 years was not good enough. And while I don’t have the “Don’t lose hope, because I got in” for you, all I can say is I can completely relate and empathize with your thoughts and feelings. I am now 35 with a 12 yr old daughter and I cannot phathom the idea of putting myself through this application stress over and over. I also cannot see myself doing those 2 classes over to bring up my pre requisite GPA, and I wish the process was so different so they could see how much I really want this and how long I've been yearning it. 450 words could not fit the amount of feeling I wanted to express in that personal statement, however a good mentor and family friend I have who is a nurse practitioner and NYU alumni told me “you have to hope that the committee analyzes you in a different holistic way, they cannot expect someone your age and with your responsibilities and with your financial situation to have a ton of volunteer hours or shadowing hrs, you have to think they are looking for your effort in life” so I used that as my guide for my personal statement.
Anyhow I hope this helps in some sort of way. I wish everyone the best, and while giving up might not be an option for some, for others it just seems like the only option. In my case its just not doable anymore, but for others my best advice is that if you have financial support and not so many responsibilities definitely try to get some volunteer hrs, and put yourself through a creative writing class to whip up the best 450 words personal statement possible. ?
Hi guys, so I was just wondering what people's plans are for the Summer before the fall semester? I would like to work and cannot really find jobs relating to the hospital where they don't require a lot of certifications. I am also looking into just waitressing. Just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions. Thank you!

Don't get frustrated! you definitely have a chance of getting in! I graduate next week from my undergrad. I had a 3.61 GPA and I didn't have any medical experience at all. I have management experience which isn't relevant at all. They're known for accepting underdogs! There was a girl in my boyfriends cohort who was dismissed from her nursing program at another school and she still got into NYU on her first time applying. Don't give up or get frustrated, you might see posts of people putting their stats saying they have a 4.0 GPA and A's in all pre-req grades and they have over 2000 shadowing hours and they work as a CNA and this and that. I used to get extremely frustrated reading that and comparing it to myself, but you really don't know what the admission committee really wants. Good luck and positive vibes!!
