NYU ABSN FAll 2021

Published

Hey, this is super duper early but I figured we could get some questions, fears, or concerns talked through until March 1, 2021, for priority or April 1, 2021, for the regular decision to NYU's ABSN 15 month program for non-nurses. Please don't be afraid, Please share stats if you are comfortable doing so. It really does help cohorts after us figure out strengths and weaknesses to be better applicants. Hey, after all, It's all about helping each other out at the end of the day, right! Don't be shy, talk about where you're from and things you may be worried about for the application process. As well as other schools you might be applying for!

That hasn't happened to me but maybe it's a good sign

Its likely the next round of acceptances will happen on Friday. I got my acceptance last Monday the 5th but it was likely due to the Easter holiday, lots of offices and businesses were closed on Friday the 2nd.

Hi!

Does anybody know the academic schedule/day to day life to expect with clinicals and classes. Not including the hours of studying we will need LOL.

You can find info on Youtube/blogs...There are people who attend the ABSN program/attended the program who have Youtube videos.

Would you know the pass scholarship to receive per semester

Everyone's financial aid award is different, no one would know what scholarships you would get....

Does anyone know if they accept people more than once a week? Someone who got accepted today mentioned that NYU gives you a week to accept the offer. Does this mean more people might not hear back until next week or ?

You get 2 weeks at least. I was accepted, there was no hard deadline given. In the faq page on their admissions page they advise you make a decision within 2 weeks, but does not say that it is required. People have to figure out a lot- like financing, so its not at all reasonable to give one week for that.

Got my acceptance today at 2:23pm too. Disappointed about their scholarship/fin aid offer, but I guess that should’ve been expected from NYU right? LOL. Anyone else wondering how they’re actually going to pay for this program?

congrats to everyone else who got in and fingers crossed for those still waiting!!

Yeah their fin aid is generally not great. There are a couple things I did here and there to help with money but I got a personal loan (as did most of my cohort). It's going to be huge by the time I'm out of the program, so that is definitely something to consider.

Hi Everyone!

I was accepted today! I'll be leaving information below for anyone that's curious. Good luck to you all.

I received the email at 2:23 pm and I submitted my application 3/25.

My undergrad GPA was 3.5 and I majored in Health Sciences and minored in Psych.

My prereqs:

A&P I: B

A&P II: A-

Micro: B

Statistics: A

Chem II: B

Nutrition: A-

Lifespan: A

I also submitted two LORs and I haven't had any experience working in healthcare.

@AllisonJoyy do you still feel like it was worth it? Yeah, personal loans and high interest rates are terrifying to think about, but I guess that’s really the only way to do it..

Yes and no. I love my profs and they are great people and care a lot. To be totally honest, the education is not the best of the best, especially with covid (all of our simulation clinicals are cut in half, so only an hour-ish). You really pay for the name, which does help with getting a job in the long run. But it's a brutal program with lots of busy work, and as much as the profs are helpful, administration has no student advocacy aside from our amazing dean, so if something goes wrong you're on your own unless your teachers can handle it or the dean is available. I hope it is a different program once restrictions clear up, because I know this semester has been very trying on us all to be paying so much to sit in our apartments all day.

Hi Laura,

Where did it say one week? Can you send the link?

I accepted after one week. The website says they recommend accepting within 2 weeks but they do not give a hard deadline:

https://www.nyu.edu/academics/studying-abroad/upperclassmen-semester-academic-year-study-away/applying/accept-decline-instructions.html

Now that I’ve enrolled I don’t have the notification anymore, but I’m almost positive my acceptance said to respond within one week. That was also what the admissions officer told me over the phone in February when I asked.

Edit: Found it! In my admissions letter it says "The deadline to confirm your enrollment is one week from the date of your decision notification."

Yea the max aid from federal loans is capped, and definitely too low of an amount for this program! I am looking into private loans, how about you?
