Whats your general opinion of them? Are they helpful? Do they general tend to blow you off when you need them for something? My experience various as to some are good and some are really awful. You can tell some of the interim nurse supervisors are just a fill in because they know nothing of the hospital procedures and protocols. I knew of some that were just downright nasty...

The nursing supervisors at my facility are great. After hours, and on weekends (when managers are out of the building), they are next on the chain of command above the charge RN. As such, they are (with very few exceptions) great support for us charge RNs. They will look up policies for us, come back us up in difficult patient situations, and respond to ERTs. They can also step in to mediate between the charge RN and bed placement if we feel we are getting an inappropriate patient, or need to move someone out to step-down or ICU quickly. Plus, they are the ones who assign the float pool staff to the units based on staffing needs...so yeah, definitely helpful :)
