What would you do if you found out that a fellow nursing student is smoking marijuana?
It is not true that Marijuana doesn't have effects that cause problems.....
Sometimes marijuana use can also produce anxiety, fear, distrust, or panic.
So driving while under the influence is just as bad as drinking ETOH and drivng.
I have also seen a handful of young patients.....like 17-19 YO who used for the first time and became flouridly psychotic----hallucinating, dellusional and were hospitalized for stabilization.
I guess I just have a different stand on all of this because of the area I work in.......psych which by nature also includes chemical dependancy. And yes I would rather take care of the THC addicted patient then many others as they are usually more mello compaired to the cocaine or heroine addict.......but they call THC a gateway drug for a reason........
I have to practice what I preach....and yes I do drink but I don't tell my patients........unless they have already crossed that line into alcoholism.......that there is anything wrong with having a drink or two now and then or even a couple of times a week. There is a level of use that is not a problem.......but can't preach that use of illegal substances is wrong then go and use when not at work.

- Distorted perception (sights, sounds, time, touch)
- Problems with memory and learning
- Loss of coordination
- Trouble with thinking and problem-solving
- Increased heart rate, reduced blood pressure

Alcohol is much much worse of a problem to deal with nationwide. Pot may be illegal in the eyes of the U.S. government, but that's just cause they wouldn't profit if it were legal and everyone was allowed to homegrow it. We wouldn't need alcohol if pot were legal and the government would lose out on millions of dollars of alcohol taxation...
In my country amokeing canabis although illigal is considered to be perfectly acceptable. and unless you caught carrying a lot the police will almost always ignore it.
theifore i would ignore it
to be honest most of my friends smoke it, i dont but thats only out of a personal preferance and not for any medical/moral reason.
Honestly after reading a few threads about the drama during nursing school I find it hard to believe that so many people say they wouldn't report somebody if they knew for a fact, especially if it was an enemy.
I would never in my life expose that kind of information to anybody I went to school with and not expect to get reported, tested, and kicked out...

... There IS that point... If someone is stupid/ignorant enough to divulge non-pertinant unprofessional information in that arena- they deserve what they get. IMO that speaks more to the person's social couth and social skills than anything else... Do what you want on your own time, but to talk about it at school/work? Uncalled for.
Given that alcohol is far more inebriating than marijuana, probably nothing. That is unless they are arriving to school or clinicals looking buzzed, THEN I would report it. Sorry people but I feel that if any of you that are up in arms over someone smoking marijuana happen to drink...then you are nothing but big fat hypocrits, just MHO.
If they use pot enough to reek of it and affect their behavior at work, im sure their superiors would notice, get them tested, and boot them out.If you condone drinking in moderation but not smoking in moderation, thats just hypocritical. Alcohol is alot more problematic than pot. Just cause the law arbitrarily says its ok doesnt make it any better.
One's illegal, the other's not. A nurse who gets high is more likely to divert medications for personal use...plain and simple.
