I am a new nursing student living in ATL and I absolutely hate it, I am currently married working on my prereqs and I was thinking about going back home to NY LI, but I dont know if my DH can get there. I have taken a 20k pay cut and his salary is cut 10k so we are constantly leaving our child with the neighbors overnight to work and try and make ends meet. They have no unions or job security here and the pay is horrible but we have to do this to make ends meet, I am constantly borrowing money that we cant pay back so help is pretty scarce for us right now we have to find a place that has unions, which will offer a better pay salary and some type of job security.
How is the job market in Ma for nursing students with PCA experience?
What is the salary for a PCA working in a hospital?
How hard is it to get into a nursing program there?
Do they have any private nursing schools that are affordable?
I know for law enforcement there they are making 45k per year that is at least a 20k increase in salary for him but I do not know about nursing for myself.

Unfortunately the market here is horrible. Most Boston and metro Boston hospitals are on a hiring freeze with minimal job postings, and it has been like this for almost two years now. Right now nursing schools have cut back on admissions because there are way too many new grads and absolutely no jobs. Even schools with job placement assistance are not able to fulfill that end of the bargain with their nursing graduates. I know several people who graduated at the end of 2007 who still don't have jobs, and if you take a look around this board there are a ton of 2008 grads that still have not been able to obtain a position. Many have moved out of state. I honestly wouldn't recommend trying to start your career here right now.
Private schools run 30-50k/year here, but I really wouldn't bother because scholarships have been drastically reduced, there's not much free money, and it's become increasingly difficult to get loans with the economy in the toilet. PCA positions in Boston/metro Boston pay $11-17/hour depending on the department. When I was a CNA I made between $14.50-19.86/hour depending on which hospital and the hours.

thank you so much for the reply I am in Atlanta and I tell you I cant take it here anymore, the paycut I have taken is well over 20k and my spouse is another 10k. I am completely unhappy to the point I find myself crying everyday. I am constantly having to borrow money from my family to keep my lights on or my water running and I have never in my life been this low before, they have a job in Suffolk County with the sherrif dept and I was thinking about that for my spouse while I worked PCA and continued with my school at least then we could live off our jobs while I went to school. The job for him starts at 45k and I have FA already with loans I was living off but I dont know how long it will take a PCT to find work in Boston with this economy? If this dosnt work I am seriously considering packing my bags and going back home to be closer to my family in LI NY and he will just have to stay here, because I am really at a point were I cant function in this state any longer

Hi, I would suggest that you try to find a job in another state than MA. It's really tough out here!!!
