Nursing student looking to learn more about what it takes to be a Public Health Nurse

Published

Hi Everyone!!

I am a BSN student (1 year left woo!) and for my Public Health and Community nursing class I was asked to interview a nurse who is currently practicing within the field of Public Health. Being that we are all extremely busy and finding someone locally who is willing to take the time to meet and discuss their role has proven to be challenging. I have decided that a really good option would be to post the questions here and see what any of you lovely ladies and gents have to offer.

1)What is your current position?

2)What are some of your responsibilities?

3) What type of population do you service?

4)What type of training and certifications are required within your field of practice?

5)Please provide some reasons as to why your role is needed within the population you service, and describe some of the preventative measures you have taken while fulfilling your role, and if these are considered primary, secondary, or tertiary measures.

Any answers or guidance are extremely appreciated and I am extremely grateful for any responses :)

The purpose of an interview is to interact with a person. Anyone can answer questions one the Internet and you have no way of knowing if they are being truthful with you. Spend some more time reaching out to public Heath professionals in your area. Check Heath department, WIC offices, community clinics.

Very true! I will definitely continue my search and have a few in person options pending. Thank you for taking the time to answer and for the good advice :)
