Reality Shock

  1. I'm doing a presentation on reality shock. The shock experienced by new grads when the entered the "real world" of nursing. Does anyone have any expereinces they would like to share? Did you experience this when you were a new grad?
    all feedback is appreciated

    Thank YOU!

No one REALLY knows what it's going to be like as a nurse, even if you've worked health care in another capacity, even side by side with nurses thinking you've observed what they are doing. There's something freaky about that first time a patient asks you for something where your previous response would have been, "I'll let your nurse know" - suddenly, you're it!

There is a greater burden of responsibility felt once you have a license to lose, I think. It's subtle, but it's there.

I think that feeling was much more significant than any concerns I may have had about procedures to be learned.
