I have the HARDEST time with drug calculations. So if anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it! I am doing good so far on most questions but on the following it's not clicking.

Infuse Ancef 1G/50mL IVPB q6h. The label tells you to run in over 15 minutes. What rate will you set on the IV pump? ml/hr

I know I need to divide 50ml/1G, but should I convert G to mg? and do I multiply that by 60min/1hr?

You do not need to worry about the 1G. It is kind of extra information. You have 50mL that you need to get into the patient in 15 minutes and you want to convert that to mL per hour. So you could set up the problem a few different ways. For ex. 50mL/15min x 60min/1hr= 200ml/hr Or 50mL/15min=x mL/60min; x=200ml, or there are 4 15min periods in an hour so just times 50 by 4 and you get 200.

+1 with what vdrapeau said.

The question simply asks about rate. You have 50ml's to give in 15 mins regardless of dose.

Thank you both SO very much that not only helps with that problem but with so many more. I'm learning to ignore all of the extra info that is given and only focus on what the question is asking for. Thanks again!
