We had orientation back in April and it was 8 hours...they went over EVERYTHING. Everything from our book list and class scheduals all the way down to no thongs under our white scrubs please(lol). We took tours around the school with senior nursing students and got to ask them anything, which was nice. we met all the teachers we would be in contact with. They went over how all the lectures and power points would be online and how to get to them. It was very exciting, our first day on our syllubus says orientation as well, Its going to be more along the lines of how to use the syllubus and what to expect. We get like a date guide that corresponds with pages from our syllubus. It is VERY EXCITING huh! I start the 30th cant wait, good luck!

I just finished Orientation Week last week for my core start of Aug 30. We had 4 hours a day for 5 days and covered the basic info (uniforms, schedules, teacher intros, books, etc.), professionalism, overview of dosage calculations, review of medical terminology & A&P, writing workshop, student services, study techniques ... very thorough :)

My orientation isn't till Sept 1st but its at noon so I don't think it'll be longer than 3 or 4 hours. We did our own schedules and everyone has different classes at different times, not to mention some of the students are part time and not full time so I'm wondering what we will be doing as well. I hear we get an assignment though so that'll be interesting.

We should be receiving the physical assessment kits we ordered. The only info we don't have is on scrubs and our hospital assignments but I'm sure they'll give us our nursing student handbooks and go over it (which I already looked at and read through online). They might mention the book list but I already have that as do some of my other classmates. No school tour since majority of us have been here for 2-3 years already lol and we know what the health sciences building looks like. Our first day of class is also a week later, I'm just excited for orientation and meeting the other 159 classmates starting with me this fall.

WOW - 159 classmates! There are 24 in my class and we're in all the same classes together all the way through.

I'm jealous of all of you. We got this crappy, sorry, sad excuse for an "online orientation" this year. Basically, log onto Blackboard and read a bunch of crap.

But, if there are questions, there is no way to ask them. In the letter we received about this "orientation" it said if we had any questions to email the department head.

Guess what? I sent an email about 3 weeks ago and haven't gotten any kind of response!

Example: We have to buy our school's arm patches from the bookstore and iron them onto our scrubs. I've heard in the past they are very particular about where EXACTLY they are ironed but was there any info about that? Heck no.

Example: Our scrubs have to be a specific shade of blue. Did it say anywhere what that shade is? Heck no. Luckily, I found out from some previous students.

I can go on and on...

well, i do not start until Jan and my orientation is Dec 14-15... however i have scoured the online student handbook on several occasions trying to find out any info on it.. from what i have read, they go over policy and procedure, give a campus and hospital tour (my programs affiliated with a hospital and its right next to the school).. were introduced to the ATI testing package, They give us copy cards and id badges.. thats all i know right now.

Reading about all of you having orientation already is making me even more excited/nervous. I have orientation from 9am-3:30pm on Aug 19th and start class Aug 23rd. I have heard that our orientation consists of going over the school handbook(which is available online as well), meeting instructors and faculty of the college, taking photos for our student profile and getting to know the other students. Other than that I am not sure what we will be doing in that 6 1/2 hour time frame. I just know that I can't wait to get started and am counting down the days!! :D

I start on September 1st and my orientation was in June. My orientation was only 2-3 hours long. They gave us our schedules, book list, reading assignments, rules and regulations and a small tour of the nursing department.

Whew! Just got back...long almost 8 hour day and it was 1.5 hours from me (main campus of a 3-campus system). Tired and head hurts but a lot of information to chew on. There was a review of critical thinking skills, legalities of nursing, medical terminology, library overview, and a big section on learning styles. Tomorrow is an equally long day which will include some more topic-oriented lectures in the morning, the possibility of registering (but no guarantee?) and an in-depth look at the course syllabi, book lists and calendar. So the nuts and bolts....
