Nursing school dropout & academic records

Published

So I'm halfway through the first semester of nursing school and realized that nursing isn't for me. I wanted to know if dropping out of nursing school will affect my academic record. Like would it show up on my transcript if I apply to another school or program?

Thank you in advance!

Well, you'll have "W"s for all the classes you drop on your transcript from that school. Any school you apply to in the future will most likely ask you to list every school you've attended in the past. You can expect to be asked about having left school (esp. if you were to apply to another nursing program in the future), but choosing to leave a program isn't a big deal (certainly not like having flunked out of a previous program). There's nothing wrong with deciding that nursing isn't for you, and that shouldn't hurt you (academically) going forward.

Sometimes people post here that they are planning to just omit the previous program from future applications, but be aware that, if you do that and schools find out about it (which is possible, esp. if you're getting student loans now and apply for student loans in the future), most schools consider that academic dishonesty sufficient to eliminate you as a candidate (or kick you out of school if they find out after you've already been accepted).

Best wishes for your journey!
