Do all nursing programs go through a CNA practicum in the beginning? We just did our first weekend at the nursing home

I think it's either that or they require you be a CNA already.

Well we have to know CNA skills because they are part of our basic skill set. If I remember correctly our CNA portion lasted for a month and then we started clinicals.

In NC it's required to be on the CNA 1 Regustry.

Specializes in PICU, Sedation/Radiology, PACU.

I never had a clinical in a nursing home, but my first clinical (on the medical unit of a hospital) focused almost entirely on CNA type of duties (bed baths, ADL's, bed-making) as well as medication administration.

After completing my first year of the nursing program (the end of the second year of my BSN program), we were certified as CNA's just by registering with the board.
