Nurses Job Hunt

Published

I need some help on creating a better cover letter. Thanks.

Dear Hiring Manager,

I was excited to hear that Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania has once again been ranked as the top medical center in Philadelphia. I am a Registered Nurse with 3 years clinical experience seeking employment with your prestigious institution. I am looking to broaden my career by seeking new challenges in a fast paced environment. It has been my dream to have a career with Penn Medicine. It is a great honor to have this opportunity to write you today.

My qualifications include the following:

- Experienced with electronic documentation systems such as Cerner AECIS, Meditech, Point Click Care, and UDS.

- Taught and trained new employees about policies and procedures, documenting, and critical nursing skills.

- Selected to be part of the first group of employees to open new rehabilitation hospital. This included troubleshooting problems, and creating solutions to make a better workflow.

- Demonstrated ability to utilize critical thinking, multi-tasking, and delegating skills in challenging situations.

Quality care and patient safety are my two goals as a healthcare professional. I believe in the excellence that Penn Medicine nurses provide to their patients. With my proven track record, I would make an exceptional addition to the Penn Medicine Family. I am continually striving to advance my knowledge. I have a goal to attain a Masters in Nursing, which I believe would benefit this organization. Once again, I would like to thank you for this amazing opportunity to be a part of an exemplary team of professionals.

Specializes in MICU, SICU, CICU.

It's a little too much. Take it down a notch.

HUP is a great hospital.

best wishes,

Maggie

I agree with Maggie. In addition, you really must state, in the first sentence of your cover letter, what specific position you are applying for at the institution. They already know that they are ranked as the top medical center in Philadelphia.
