I recently went to a open house in NYC for a per diem position and the recruiter tried to make me feel small...i had to listen to...how many people she sees with 10 years experience and my resume showed i had 3 jobs in 2years of nursing...
well hello....i cant help it if i relocated to NC and then move back to NY.....thank god i already have a full time job but its 5 days a week...
she even tried to belittle my experience in NC saying they probably thought i was a good nurse because ny is fast paced...she has no idea
I worked harder in NC for little bit of money and learned more skills at a long term acute care hospital for 3 months than i did with 8 months of nursing experience in a hospital in NY
i am grateful for everything but she sure knows how to put a spirit down i feel sorry for the new grads what would she tell them.
Any thoughts my fellow nurses???

Understand that her attitude had little to nothing to do with you, and everything to do with how she feels about herself and her own professional insecurity.
Anyhoo, if she was that great of a nurse, why isn't she still practicing? I'm surprised the hospital can function without her skills - yeah, right!

She probably has plenty of applicants right now due to the economy and has an inflated sense of worth thinking it is due to her recruiting skills and not just the change in job market. Ignore her!! I moved about every two years until my husband retired from the Army. Sometime you just have to do what you have to do :redpinkhe

Exactly what I was going to say.
This recruiter obviously thinks everyone is applying to her facility and is coming to her because there is something special about..............her.
LOL. She is going to go into a deep depression when things change and all of a sudden........no one is applying anymore. And then she puts on her act like she did here and everyone is like............"Sorry, I decided to go with (fill in the name of the other hospital down the road)".

There are many people in life who take every opportunity their position allows them to belittle and humiliate others. Chalk the behavior up to that of a small person, with a small mind, and poor people skills.

People who derrive satisfaction from putting others down remind me of those who scribble stuff on bathroom walls. No sense in getting upset. Just be glad your life is not so sad and miserable you have to seek pleasure and satisfaction along those lines. I think I'd feel sorry for that recruiter.

Imagine how recruiters feel when they see MY resume'!!! I moved 8 times, mostly due to my (previous) husband's educational/job opportunities.
When someone says - 'you've had a lot of jobs ' , well, I've lived in alot of places, and was always able to find appropriate work. You can't work in one job for 10 years if you moved after 3 years!
Don't let the turkeys get you down!
thanks for all your support my fellow nurses
she even asked me quote: "how much do you make now? i told her 33 per hour..her response "oh well we pay our nurses 48 per hour and we do not use agencies to pay them.
she also stated "we had so many applicants and we needed to fill 100 positions and we got more than enough and the openhouse was on since monday and you are just showing up now?
mind you ..i found the ad wednesday and the ad stated open house monday to thursday
and as if that was not enough i had to listen to her brag about how many retirees showed up for nursing positions and there isn't a nursing shortage anymore and i am lucky to have graduated in 2007 and gotten a job because right after that they stopped hiring
like i needed to hear all of that.
i wonder if she is proud that all these people are not doing well now that retirees are showing up
the economy isnt the greatest and people are struggling and they dont need to hear all of that

I would have been tempted to politely ask if her views reflected those of managament and administration. :imbar
I've found NY to be very competitive with many ICU years of experience myself. THe upstate area where I worked had nurses that were hired and retired from the same unit, so my 7-10 years exp. did not have them lining up for me either.
This was a great time to sell yourself as this recruiter seemed to have the hoops all set up for you to jump through, lol. Although when I"ve manned open houses, I used to work very hard to sell my hospital and my ICU's to get the best quality RN interested in me, not the other way around.
I hope this isn't a trend in recruiting, but the new grads are having the door slammed in their faces for entry level jobs as well, it's frightening!
Good luck with your search.
which is more important in hiring the nurse recruiter or the nurse manager?
when i was in NC i walked up on the floor and spoke to the nurse manager directly and explained everything to her , gave my resume etc and she hired me on the spot
came back to NY and they try to make things difficult with all the show off attitude either yes or no only 2 answers is all i need not that show off attitude
nursing is very hard work to begin with hard and thankless because we are all just a number..when we drop down OR cant work they dont care it will be """NEXT NURSE PLEASE"

Exactly what i was wondering.....
If your hospital is SOOOOO fabulous, then why aren't YOU working the floors?
Is it possible that those who can't ....hire?
