Growing up in a household that was, at times, very financially stressed to the point that the electricity was disconnected, a parent's car was repossessed, and the refrigerator was frequently empty.

I realized the importance of obtaining an education and possessing salable job skills early in life. Without these two things, a person runs the risk of being mired in chronic unemployment, intractable debt, and at the constant mercy of others.

Nursing was never a childhood dream, but it has provided me with the financial stability and middle class comforts that eluded my family of origin.
