Puerto Rico school feedback?

Anyone out there have info on the school in Arecibo, PR? It is a 24 month program that begins in August.

I'd love to hear anything, thanks.

I will be attending in the Fall if anyone wants to chat. This is my second time there :/ First time I couldn't afford another trimester but I've got money saved up just in case.

If you go there you can literally get accepted and sign up for nursing classes the same day. That's what I did but it was a lot easier since I had my lovely mother whose a native Puerto Rican and knows how to get things done. I'm glad their ADN program is now accredited.. I may just go to finish that and do a ADN-MSN or ADN-BSN online program back home!

Are you going back to Inter? Do you have to take like a entrance exam to get into the nursing program? Such as the TEAS or the HELIS???

No entrance tests.

What is the cost per credit?

I think its $170.00/credit

Hopefully WordTravelingYogi will chime in here. She's a friend of mine who lives where a lot of the students live. I think it's called Las Cumbres or something like that. It's within walking distance for sure. If you talk to "E" in the International Students office he can help you find good housing. He is SUPER nice--even gave some students tours of the campus and took some to see housing. That's one thing I can say about the school, they may be laid back (as in not getting things accomplished fast), but they are the nicest professors that I have ever encountered. We have went to breakfast with one of our professors a few times. They're more like friends/mentors than strict professors. There are a few that are super hard and strict, but even they are nice and truly awesome people. Also, you go through the program with the same classmates, so you build a very strong bond. When I went to college in Orlando it was a very impersonal experience. The professors had so many students and they really didn't seem to care. Plus, the students didn't care much about getting to know each other. It's a whole different experience here in PR.

I am extremely happy with my journey at La Inter so far

I have another question. Sorry. LOL. I have like 3 classes done. My 2 English and my Math. How long does it take to complete the ADN program. From start to finish.

Playing catch up again. Geez this thread moves fast.

By the way, I attended Inter's orientation on June 3rd and it was completely in Spanish!

I am very surprised. It must have been the general orientation for the Spanish students. Because last year they had three English only orientations. Not a word of Spanish was spoken.

Ok, thanks! Im just thinking that UMET might sound better on a resume...any former students out there in the workplace care to chime in here??

kevano I completely beg to differ. I think many people, even people living on the island haven't heard of UMET. WHere Interamericana has nine (9) campuses all over the island. Everyone knows of Interamericana and people are proud of it. It has a good reputation. Just tonight I met a guy that proudly said Interamericana's Metro campus is his alma mater, after he found out I was going to school there. That same senario has happened to me at least a few dozen times.

UPR the state school (or govt run) has the best repuation but it is Spanish only and they are having tons of strikes and people are transfering out. La Inter has a good reputation. Don't dismiss it from things you read on this thread.

11 months!!! Omg...I sooo am coming to Inter. I want housing within walking distance. Where do I look?

Yes a lot of students live in La Cumbre or Las Cumbres. There are actually 4 of them and I live in La Cumbre I which is closest to the school at about 1/3 to 1/2 a mile depending on where in the gated community your live. It tends to be a tad bit more expensive than say another 1/2 mile away and I think it is the proximity to the school. For example I pay 750 for a 2 BD/ 1 BA. But it has a washer and dryer in the kitchen, a yard, and everything is modern and new. The landlord is amazing. Never in my life have I had someone so attentive and it is definitely a rarity in PR.

Anyway this is a great place to live if you do not want to get a car. ANd people that were worried about not having a car, shouldn't. You can always carpool to clinicals. We all do. Those with cars give rides to those without and those without chip in for gas and parking. Everything in PR works out.

Im excited...I know a lot about island life as I live on St. Croix,VI which is a 35 minute plane ride away. I think I will give 'E' a call tomorrow for more info on the housing. Thanks a lot...

One of my neighbors and fellow classmates who happens to be sleeping on my couch right now because her rooommate is graduating and has tons of family visiting, is also from St Croix.

So which hospitals are clinicals taught in? And what does the 11 month class schedule look like?

The hospitals the school uses are ALL OVER the place. I have been to HIMA Caguas two times, HIMA Bayamón once, the VA, Hogar Crea for phychosocial and it is not even a hospital and now finally next week I am going to Centro Medico for Pediatrics. You really can end up just anywhere.

Are there any Entrance Test? Such as the TEAS or HESI to get into Inter?

Nope you don't need any of those.

Will she be needing a roommate come August?...lol...

Whether you choose Umet or la inter when you go back to the states many people won't know much about either. Both have an accreditation and the nurse director from Umet was the one who started the English program in la inter. Either way what's matters is that you get your degree and most important pass the nursing boards.

I have to say that whoever you ask will have different opinions about the schools. Everyone I've talked to says UMET is nice. My sister is a lawyer that went to Georgetown and likes UMET and says it's much nicer. Yet my dad who is a dentist went to the Inter, it's "his" school and will defend it lol. I like UMET and think it would be an overall better learning experience but the inter is more practical for me (I live 3 miles away).

Can I remind everyone of the site rules and soliciting this includes asking each other to be room mates or know someone that is looking for room mates
