Anyone out there have info on the school in Arecibo, PR? It is a 24 month program that begins in August.

I'd love to hear anything, thanks.

I believe the June session starts on June 1st and goes through the 30th, something like that. The July is from the 1st to the 23rd, I believe. You can only take 7 credit hours each month--any more needs approval from the dean of studies. There isn't a huge selection, which is why I think I'm not going to make it by the time registration changes my start date, as most of the classes I want will probably be gone already.

If you don't have your start date as June, you'll have the same problem that I do. You would have to go down to registration, fill out a form, and wait like a week for them to change it before you can register for classes. Plus, the first time you register, you have to actually go in person and have a counselor fill out and sign the paperwork. So you might be in the same boat as me nauhjat--stuck in the regular 3 year program. You would have to get your general classes down to 3 MAX or you can't do the accelerated program. Total bummer for me.

ChanelCinq, I don't know much about the grant. All I know is that my husband got a paper in the mail about it, but didn't apply because it said something about including his parent's info, and they're so strict about that they even want death certificates if they are deceased. His dad makes a very, very comfortable salary, so I know he would be out, as it's based on financial need. Me on the other hand, both of my parents are deceased, and I don't make a lot of money, so I think I can get it. I don't see why they would need a parent's information when we're adults. My husband is 27 and I'm 31 (cougar - growl LOL) so not sure why they need the parent's info???

I thought you already had a Bachelors?

No I don't have it. Well I guess I won't make for June. Maybe July.I will have to see when I am down there.

Woo hoo! I just went through the curriculum and figured out how to sprinkle my general education classes here and there to where I will have at least 12 hours each trimester, except for the 1st and last. The first I will only have one 2-hour nursing class and nothing else, so I will just pay that out of pocket. The last trimester is just 4 hours, so I will pay that out of pocket too. I mean, the credit hours are all that we pay for, right? We don't pay for the hours that are spent at clinicals on top of that, do we? I wouldn't think so. God, I hope not LOL

So, now that I got the whole financial aid thing covered, I am definitely going to stick with the regular program. If I try and push things for the accelerated, I know that everything will get screwed up. It's fine as it is now, so I'll stick with it. Plus, it will give my husband a whole year of experience before we go back to the states, so hopefully he will find a job over there quick. As long as one of us finds a job semi-immediately we should be good financially.

sorry, I can't remember who said it, but someone was speaking of a great deal they got on a rental car in PR. Where did you, or are you, going to rent from?

Thanks

Cheapest I found was Budget.

I am not doing any house hunting until I fly out there on June 8th. I found a roommate from this board though. I can't remember his handle now that we took the conversation off allnurses. We are interested in finding a third and I would like to have that hammered out before I fly down and do house hunting so I know to look for a 2 bed room or a three bedroom.

Both of us want to be as close to the school as possible and he has a dog so we are looking for a pace with a yard. We are looking to pay 250 to 350 per person before electricity and the other stuff.

Hey

I Would like to talk about about a possible roommate situation.

You have mail!

Anyone have a list of which shots we need?

Anyone have a list of which shots we need?

I think the most important ones are your TB and your Hep B. These shots take the most time especially Hep B because it is a series of 3 shots over 3 months. So you may want to get them now otherwise the hospital may not allow you to attend clinicals. Very bad!!!

Yeah I am in the middle of the Hep B series. I will get the last shot in July. I have a ton of various shots but I want to make sure I have all the ones the school requires while I still have medical insurance.

By the way what is the story on health insurance in Puerto Rico? Does the school offer it cheap like other schools? Someone told me PR is socialized medicine.

I'm pretty sure they are confusing Puerto Rico with Costa Rica.
