I am currently a Nursing student. First day is actually today! However, I can't turn back now and switch my major. Long story but i really can't. So I wanted to know if I could still apply to med school with a BSN. Is it not recommended to go this route? What are the extra classes i would have to take? Thank you!
Yes, a person with a BSN can go to med school -- but only if they meet the requirements of the particular school they wish to attend. Each medical school is different in terms of entrance requirements. So, you will have to look at the med schools that are possibilities for you and see what their specific requirements are -- and then meet them. While it is possible, not many nurses do it because it usually involves taking several extra classes that are difficult to take while simultaneously getting that BSN.
If I were you, I would be exploring med school options and planning your path to get there as soon as possible so that you don't waste time taking classes that won't take you where you want to go. Talk to your school's academic advisers about the path to med school. Good luck to you.
