Nursing Professional Standards Board Requirements for Veteran Affairs Nurses

Published

Hello, this is my first time posting on here! I am applying for a VA RN position and I was told I had to submit a document that gives examples of 9 pathways that will determine my salary. I have never done this before and am a little concerned about not doing it correctly?? My background, I have been in nursing for 12 years, 5 as a LVN and 7 as a RN, I've had my BSN for 1 year. Can anyone give me insight or examples of what I should be writing about?? Thank you y'all in advance!

Specializes in school nurse.

Do they at least give you their working definition of "pathway"?

Specializes in RETIRED Cath Lab/Cardiology/Radiology.

There are examples, yes.  I found this blogspot, for starters:

Your potential VA should have its own examples or coaches or those who might help you address the areas.  Only one example is required in each area, of some way you met the requirement, whether it affected one patient or a patient population, or the hospital as a whole (what was the scope of influence); you identified an issue/problem, and formulated a solution or partial solution, and implemented it (how?), and was it sustainable?

My toughest area to meet is research (I am not involved in any official research projects, but do a little bit of research/reading with certain situations and challenges).

Do some web searching for VA NPSB examples, you will likely find some that may stimulate your own so you can write to the required areas.

Thank you and yes they did provide the 9 pathways and examples. I guess I need to just sit and think about each one individually and also my career to decide what to write. Just wasn't expecting all this writing besides a resume, LOL.
