Hello, I am currently a student at HCC getting my pre requisites for nursing school done and the 3 classes I have left to take are Chemistry, A&P 2 and Microbiology. My plan is to attend nursing school Fall 2018 so in order to do that I need to take Those 3 classes all together and everyone keeps telling me that it's too much that I should take them separately but I don't want to lengthen my time in school even more. Any advice?

If taking three classes is too much, it's going to be tough getting through nursing school. Just apply yourself and make time to study. You'll be fine.

Those are heavier classes with labs ....so more like six classes. Unless you are very capable academically, it would probably be better to break them up. Passing may not be enough. You ideally want As in all three. How does the program you're applying to calculate GPA and admission eligibility? Make sure you know before you dive in ...some programs won't even count re-takes if you happen to mess up and attempt to try to fix it.
It's not that 3 classes are too much for me, I mean t those 3 specifically. With labs it is more work and I work full time as well.
I believe TWU does accept retakes and thank you that is something important to think about.

Second what sour said. They are challenging courses in and of themselves, but they are also time-consuming if you also have to be on campus for labs. It's possible to take all three at once but it will suck. The fact that you also work full time will make it worse. Unless you are scientifically inclined and have no other responsibilities besides school and work, I would avoid that schedule.
I can't tell you if it's too much for you. Neither can anyone else. How many credit hours/ hours per week is the lab? When I took the courses, labs were one credit. So the whole course was 4 credit hours for lecture+lab. Yeah, 11-12 credits is nearly a full time load, but plenty of people work full time and take a full course load. Are you a good student? Do you struggle in sciences? How did you do in AP1? Those are important things for you to consider. Is the potential risk of not getting A's worth the extra semester or more it would add to your academic track? Again, that's only something you can answer. If you ask me, it's a manageable schedule. Maybe you can just sign up for all three and then drop one if it's too difficult. Ask your academic advisor what your options are to withdraw without penalty.

Those are all heavy courses, but you have no other choice. It can be done, just be prepared to do nothing but work and study, might have to give up some sleep.
Good luck:up:

I don't think that just because you could struggle with 3 science courses in 1 semester means you would struggle in nursing school... I do think that taking 3 science courses in 1 semester is crazy lol. Especially 3 of the harder science courses that you mentioned. I am currently in A&P2 and chem and am fighting for B's. I went through LPN school with an A average. I would recommend no more than 2 at a time. Best of luck to you!

I took organic chemistry w/ lab, micro w/ lab, a 400 level comparative anatomy w/ lab, and public health all at once. I was working about 24 hours a week at the time and still did well.
It's definitely doable if you know how to study. Previous posters hit the nail on the head--if you have previously had no problem with science classes, that course load probably won't be that much tougher than you're used to. If historically you have struggled, I would count on either readjusting your study habits or finding a way to take a lighter course load.

If you possess an intangible asset known as intellectual horsepower, you would be able to take the three aforementioned courses in the same semester and earn 'A' grades for each one.
However, the majority of students would not be able to accomplish the feat of earning 'A' grades in all three science classes during the same semester. Only you know whether you have the intellectual horsepower to pull it off...
Good luck to you!

I'm currently taking Chem w/ lab, Micro w/ lab, and A&P I w/ lab while working 2 jobs and have an A+ in all 3 courses. If you put your mind to it, it's definitely doable! A lot of it depends on what kind of student you are though and how you generally do academically. Many wouldn't be able to handle it; others can. You know yourself better than anyone! If you think you can handle it, I say go for it.
